I won't get Vista, and XP has been rock solid. I don't really care to go to Linux.

Microsoft fixed what? I believe the one smoking the wacky weed is you. Either that, or you have a screw loose.

It is fixed either way... no thanks to roxio...

See you were in 'nam... army? Are you going to the CSM conference in June by chance?

Wow! A Bill Gates plant, right here in the Roxio forums! :D

The last thing I need is a broken, DRM laden, Big brother is watching, Vista when XP is rock solid, and my programs and hardware work great with the OS. You can't beat that now, can you? :D

Well then don't purchase vista. :)

You can stay on XP... or better, move to linux or OS X.

Bill Gate's plant? No, just someone who gets tired of all the BS that people push.

Point is: Roxio decided not to "fix" their product to work in vista... So we could all "upgrade" to the latest and greatest from Roxio...

Microsoft has fixed roxio's product... and you call me a "plant?" What plant are you smokin, dude?

I'm simply stating facts. Facts, not crap about DRM and so on... get real and get a f'ing clue.

I've installed vista and everything works fine. Some people need to read about DRM and stop regurgitating crap they read in forums, or hear from their friends....

I use Gentoo Linux here as well (dual boot).

OS X? Why pay for Free BSD with a fancy desktop? I run XP and don't need to purchase Vista - I'm getting a free copy from MS

Just accept the MS version - your choice

Who says they didn't? If you actually READ the posts you'd see they're working on it

Err - like to run that by me again - MS fixed WHAT??????

Source on the DRM crap is actually Bill Gates in a public statement. Now he ain't no friend of mine or of Bruce's so your slightly a bit off beam (about 180 degrees off beam)

You are going to have to upgrade to EMC9 for Vista - but personally I would hold off on that for a while until Vista is out - there are reports online that MS is already working on SP1 for it for later this year so what is goping to be compatible is anyone's guess really. I still remember ECD5 being trashed when SP2 came out for XP and more recently ECD7 and 8 being trashed with Internet Explorer 7 and Media Player 11

I love the part about

I have this wierd attitude, it's MY computer - not Microsoft's.

I find it funny that some people would complain about this.... most of the time it is drivers that kill the windows OS... those crappy drivers. MS disables those to make the OS more stable... they are forcing companies to actually put out products that work (or they might as well not sell the products cause they won't work anyway -- MS will stop them).

Anyway, it is great that MS took the call to make Roxio's product available for vista.... saved me some cash... last thing I need is a version 9, when I don't hardly use 7.5....

Actually the driver blocking is more down to Bill's obsession with DRM than anything else. The idea is that if a particular driver doesn't accept when Vista says 'You aren't ALLOWED to play this' it gets disabled. MS have decided that THEY are the only ones to decide if hardware needs new drivers - the hardware manufacturers have to go cap in hand to MS to get their drivers 'certified' and you just MIGHT get an update 6 months down the line.

I have a full retail copy of Roxio 7 suite on XP. I "upgraded" to v7.1 online. Do you know if this version is compatible with Windows Vista, or must I purchase v9?

Of course, instead of "having to" buy EMC 9, you could simply refrain from buying Vista. WinXP will be supported thru 2011.

I now have Cineplayer running by going though the EMC 7.5 Installation files and setting each products setup and install .exe to have administrator access. I then reinstalled the EMC 7.5 and received no 1904 errors. I then had to set adminstrator access on cineplayer.exe. To set administrator access right click on the programs you are trying to executes ".exe" file, select properties and then on the compatability tab select "Run this program as an Administrator. You may have to do this to other features as well.

Why are you so eager to get Vista? It looks like it's going to be a real dud. Going to break a lot of programs, hog resources and the DRMs will frustrate. Hopefully, this will be MS's swansong.

I definitely feel MS has bit off a lot more than they thought they would but I would never count them out. I think it's inevitable that by the end of this year, a large portion of users will have upgraded to or bought new systems and Vista will survive. Maybe not in the numbers Bill Gates wanted but it will happen.

Mike - MS themselves say they have improved compatibility with EMC 7.5 (they don't mention 7.0 or 8 tho)

Check here for the compatibility package and a list of supported apps

I love the part about

After you install this update, a CD device or a DVD device may not work correctly. If you select the device in Device Manager and then view the properties for the device, you may receive the following error message:

The software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)

I have this wierd attitude, it's MY computer - not Microsoft's.

First, be certain that your computer will be able to run Vista. The system requirements are pretty extensive.

EMC 7 will not be compatable with Vista ( I wonder if Vista includes a feature to run older programs.)

I agree with Paul. Most people will upgrade to Vista when they purchase a new computer. That includes me once the dust has settled after the release of Vista and the computer manufacturers have ironed out the 'glitches'.

Unless businesses change to a different operating system and train their employees to use it, Microsoft will still be the Operating System of choice.
