Audio probs with .avi file

I tried to use Toast to burn two DiVX video files as DV out since I don't have a DiVX player. The movie came out fine, alas no sound. I then tried using ffmpegX which resulted in a humongous file but had a second audio delay sync between image and sound. Is there some codec missing in that on a DiVX player (my mac) when copied or burned to a DV audio is not present? Where's the audio?????

That indeed did the trick, thank you. I have one last general question.

 

My initial DiVx film had 5 track AAC audio. Yet the result from Roxio's DV output was 2 channel Dolby. Anyway to retain the 5 channel "surround sound" audio? TIA

If your DivX file has Dolby Digital audio (aka AC3 aka A52), then you may want to install the appropriate QuickTime component.

Why convert to DV at all if you plan to burn with Toast (as DVD-Video, I presume)? Toast will happily burn in one go, without an intermediate format.

 

No idea on the DV 4 channel audio. Never seen it 'in the wild', nor seen it listed as supported by popular editing programs.

Thanx again for the rescue, so what format could I convert to which would allow me to keep 5.1? I also note that on the wikipedia site it states:

 

two channel audio or "4 digital audio channels at 12 bit resolution and 32 kHz sampling rate". Is there any software out there that woudl allow me to pre-process it to 4 channel and then pass it on to Roxio for compile/burn?
