Can't Copy To Dvd+r Dl

reknigh

Question

I'm having a big problem with trying to write to DVR+R DL. I'm using Creator Classic and all my settigns appear to be just fine. I've gone through about 15 DVDs now adn it's getting very expensive. The TEch Support have been of so help at all.

Here's what's happening. The copying starts out fine but at different points I get the following messages:

"Write Error: An error occurred while sriting teh disc in this drive. Do you want to try to write the disc again:? or I get "Seek, synch, ATIP or mechanical positioning error--medium error".

I have a NEC DVD-RW ND 3450A-103C drive. I've updated the firmware to their latest version. I'm using the latest EMC 8.05 update version. I've even tried different media like Memorex and Verbatim, but the results have been the same. The disc are just too expensive to just be throwing them away. I think the discs are fine as I'm able to use Windows Media Center and write to tv shows I've recorded to them adn play them back on a regualr DVD player. So it appears to be something going on with the software that causes the disc to eject from the drive before the project can be written to it.

Any help would be greatly appreciaited.

DL- means dualed layered

As for the error message and if I remember correctly, it appears there is a mechnaical problem with your drive.

Is your DVD drive geared for DL? I could not seem to find information on your model of DVD burner?

Can you create a regular DVD? If so, you problem may be that it won't accept DL DVD's

If not there may be a problem w/ your dvd drive

Yes the drive is +DL capible. Specs from Dell's page are here.

I am encountering this same issue, has there been any resolution?

It would appear that the posters who were having the problem have not visited the forums since they posted, so no one knows if they found a resolution to their problem.

It would not be a Roxio resolution. It would be some problem that they fixed with their computers.

I'm using an HP DVD740i and have similar problem with different message. I tried both disk copy(an ISO image) and Classic with the same error: "End of user area encountered. Ended up wasting two disks so far. The first was with 8.3 gig reported by EMC-8 and the :) other was with 7.93 gig reported by EMC-8.

An interesting bit of info. The disks Verbatim DL but EMC-8.05 indicates only 8 gig available.

Any info on this problem yet?

Thanks

I assume standard dvd's work ok? Is your firmware updated? I've only tried a few DL but have not had any problems at all. I've only used the ISO method but haven't checked the reported size of each.

I just finished a project using Creator Classic (EMC8, updated). I used a Verbatim DL media disc. Chose Creator Classic-- changed the disc size (lower task bar) of the media to 8.5GB--clicked on FILE--PROJECT SETTINGS under the GENERAL (tab) I chose UDF102 & NO BRIDGE. I placed approx. 3GB of files in the lower area for files. I chose NOT to close the Disc and then clicked on Burn. After the burn was completed. I went to a new Creator Classic project and BEFORE I placed any more files in the files area, I placed the previously burned DL disc in my drive and waited till the Icon came up to add files to the disk (Icon to the left of the burn Icon) After it had picked up all the previous files I had burned, I THEN added another approx.1GB of files and clicked on burn again. All went well and I had no errors of any kind.

(Piece of Cake) :) Hope this helps

Wow, using DL's can get very expensive. Have you tried burning to an image file then using Disc Copier to burn to disc? Things seem to have to be just about perfect for me to burn direct to disc and I've had great success with ISO files.
