Media Access Key (MAK) Not Recognized?

Bob Lahblaw

Question

Toast 8 / TiVo to Go (T2G) loaded well, w/ one minor glitch that appeared to self correct itself after stopping the Toast 8 program and restarting it. However, I've now hit a new problem. When I try to drag the TiVo-to-Macmini transferred shows from the Media Browser menu to the DVD-Video work area, I receive the following message:

"Couldn't complete the last command because there is a problem decrypting the file. In order to use TiVo files, you need to first enter your Media Access Key (MAK) in the preferences dialog of the TiVo To Go application. Result Code = 2000"

The problem is, I have entered my MAK. Or at least, I've done as much as the program appears to allow me to do. When I go to the TiVo Transfer menu and select Preferences, the Preferences box appears. There are two tabs, a General and a Media Access Key Tab, and the "red button" to close the window (sorry, moving from a PC and don't know all the Mac terms); there is no yellow or green window control button. When I click on the Media Access Key tab, my MAK appears in the Media Access Key box (from when I previously entered it). However, I don't see an "enter" button on either of the tabs for the Preferences window. The only way to get out of the window is the previously mentioned red button. Is something missing that should be there to "enter" the key? In any event, T2G is under the impression that I have not provided my MAK, even tho' it appears under in the Preferences window.

I have restarted the program 3-4 times and restarted my Macmini a couple of times as well. My MAK appears in the Preferences window each time, yet I still continue to get the above "Couldn't complete this last command...need to first enter your Media Access Key..." error.

Anyone else run into this problem and/or have a suggested fix?

I'm having a similar problem. I've just installed Toast 8. The install went smoothly except:

1-- There was never a window to key in my media access code

2-- When I launch tivotogo from Extras, nothing appears except the main Toast window and Media Browswer

I've installed and reinstalled Toast 8 3 times.

When I go to Preferences, there is no "media access key" tab.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Were you able to find a solution Bob, or does anybody out there have any suggestions? Thanks for your help,

Dean,

Yes...sort of. When I first attempted this, I had about 10 files I was converting. I had originally selected all ten at once. I then decided to experiment and select them one at a time and try to convert them individually. Turns out, the first file in the list was the only one giving me the error message. No problem with the others. However, when that first file was part of the group, it apparently prevented any from being converted due to the error message.

What I still don't know is why that particular file had the problem. Was it corrupted? Had it been "brought in" to the program before I had originally entered the MAK; and the others came in after the MAK had been entered -- resulting in some "non-association error"? Who knows? Freakin' cyber-witchcraft...

In any event, try converting one file at a time, and see if you get the error message with all of them. If so, consider deleting those files, and reimporting/transferring them back in again.

Please post as to your results -- I'm generally curious if this "corrects" your issue as well.

I too received the error message on only one of my recordings I transferred. Others I tried worked so I decided to delete the error causing transfer and re-imported and it worked.

Why the error occurred in the first place is a mystery but the fix is to delete the file and reimport. At least this worked for me.

You are correct... there is no Enter button. The transfer application "accepts" your MAK automatically as soon as you have added the correct # of digits. You'll be able to see your TiVo in the DVR list even if you don't have the correct MAK entered, but you won't see any shows on that TiVo unless you have the correct MAK entered.

on my mac, the media acces key never seems to take. Also, my dvr never shows up in the transfer window.

I know my mac and the dvr communicate because tivo desktop works.

I've reinstalled and rebooted everything several times. What can be done?

Bob I am having the same problem.

I know my media access key is correct because my tivo transfer program allows me to see all the shows on my tivo and still transfer them into my cpu. But when i get to the stage where I want to burn them, Toast Titanium wont import them. This is the error code i get, verbatum:

Couldn't complete the last command because there was a problem decrypting the file. In order to use Tivo files, you first need to enter your media acess key (MAK) in the preferences dialog of the TivoToGo application.

Result Code = -20000

Obviously the MAK is correct because i have entered and checked it multiple times. plus i am still able to transer programs over to my cpu. also this problem seem to come out of the blue, as i had been burning tivo shows successfully before.
