Import to MyDVD Premier 9

Bill R.

Question

I just purchased MyDVD Premier 9, and have tried importing DVD projects from MyDVD 6. Basically, what I end up with is a mess. It looks nothing like the original. The background music is missing, the menu buttons are now numbers, etc. I tried importing both the original .dvd file from version 6, and the actual disk. Both produced the same results. I would have two questions. 1. Is there a way to REALLY import a project from MyDVD 6 where I didn't have to recreate it, or 2. Any way I can run both version 6 and 9 so I can still go back to my older projects? My only other choice would be to totally try to recreate my old projects from scratch. Thanks for your help!

1) No, although you should not have a problem if you captured the video from the disc.

2) Yes, if you don't have two versions of Drag2Disc (or whatever the old one was called) on your computer.

Thanks for the reply!

I do not have Drag 2 Disc installed. I have tried installing the new version first, then the old. I also tried installing the old version first, then the new. What's happening in both cases is the old version will not execute. When you click the icon, nothing happens. I've traced it to the C:\program files\Common Files\Roxio Shared directory. Looks like version 9 puts many more files there, some of which cause version 6 to not start. I'm not sure how to separate the two versions in this directory.

MyDVD 6 is a previous version of Sonic. MyDVD 8 & 9 are based on Roxio technology after the merger. So answer to #1 is no. MyDVD 9 is not backward compatible with V6 project files.

#2: You should be able to have MyDVD 6 installed with EMC9.

If you have a video DVD that was burned by MyDVD 6, you should be able to use Media Import. The other choice would be to copy the VOB files to your hard drive using Explorer. MyDVD 9 will use the VOB files directly.

My version is MyDVD Plus 6.1.6 which is a Roxio product. I think it was very close to the first non Sonic version. If version 6 and 9 can live in harmony on my computer, can you tell me how? They both share the Common Files\Roxio Shared directory, which is preventing the 6.1.6 version from starting.

V6 by Roxio was called DVD Builder which was way before the merger with Sonic. Since the merger, the company is rebadging Sonic's former consumer products as 'Roxio'.

Have you tried reinstalling MyDVD 6 after you installed EMC 9?

First I installed 9 with 6 already there. Then I removed both and installed 9 first, then 6. I removed both and installed 6 and then 9. No luck. Every attempt disabled version 6 from starting, although it left all the files intact. There are two directories that seem to be shared with the two versions. They are: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\Certificates8 and C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\DLLShared it's in here that 6 is getting lost.

I tried to attach a screenshot of exactly what version I have. But I'm not sure how to post it. (I'm a newbie!)

Thanks!
