Roxio 9 Suite Deluxe without Dazzle?

jojoand

Question

I'm considering upgrading from Roxio 8 to 9 and don't want to make the mistake I made with 8 of getting what I THOUGHT was the most complete edition with the EMC Suite 8, only to find out that a while later they issued the 8 Deluxe with many features that were grayed out in the 8 Suite. It was frustrating as the missing elements were included in the help files and it was hard to know what would work and what would not. But I don't need or want the extra expense of the Dazzle device. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the Deluxe Suite without the Dazzle but with all the features? Or are the features the same in both editions?

Thank you!

None currently and if v.8 is any indication there never will be.

As Silver said, I don't see any way to get without the Dazzle Device. As for functions, all of the functions in EMC 9 Deluxe are available in EMC 9 Suite. The new stuff includes some new application, SoundSoap for cleaning up noisy recordings, Disc Gallery for indexing/tracking file locations on discs, and a 1-year subscription to SightSpeed as well as a bunch of new themes for MyDVD. See here.

If you're running Windows 2000, SoundSoap won't run as it requires XP.

Hope that helps!

Silver,

Thanks for the feedback. I can assure you there was no intent to delay the Deluxe release in order to "milk the customer". It just takes a lot of time and effort to put together each software product, manufacture it and release it. It took more time than originally anticipated to release the Deluxe version. This wasn't so much an upgraded version of the software as a version with extra components and content. The basic software components are the same in EMC 9 and EMC 9 Deluxe.

We understand your concerns with this issue, and we're going to do whatever we can to improve the situation going forward. We don't expect anyone to buy both the regular suite and then the Deluxe suite. We want you to choose the suite that fits your needs best.

Tom

Thanks for the feedback Tom. Do you know if there is going to be a non-Dazzle Deluxe upgrade path ?

NO

Ah ! You're "Tom" ??

By the way, I find it most interesting that I received an email almost immediately after my "Bring Up My Post" post for a "Can't Miss Deal" to upgrade to Deluxe (including the Dazzle) for $50. What are the odds ? !!

I got the same email yesterday. I think it was sent to all registered EMC9 customers. <_<

<snip drivel>

There is no upgrade path, I can't say that with 100% certainty because I am not privy to Sonics Solutions/Roxio board discussions.

Why does this strike me as an oxymoron ? Or perhaps just moronic ? On one hand your stating something as fact, "There is no upgrade path" and then completely invalidating your comment by stating "I can't say that with 100% certainty". Is this some kind of new circular logic or perhaps you have MPD and are simply disagreeing with one of yourselves ?

If you want to spend the money, you could always buy the additional included software, the extra menus from Roxio (two at $30 per pack) and the Dazzle device and call that the upgraded version. :) (except for the extra CineMagic Themes)

Had I known that the Deluxe version would be for sale I certainly would have waited the 1.5 months and bought it. As you note the cost to upgrade by purchasing the components individually is significantly more than the difference in the retail prices of the two softwares.

All applications/functions in V9 Suite and Suite Deluxe are the same; there is nothing disabled in the EMC 9 Suite so there is nothing that would be enabled by a possible upgrade.

I don't recall stating that the applications included in EMC9 were essentially dysfunctional relative to those in EMC9Dlx. Obviously that would be mistaken .

I'm not sure how it could be put any clearer. Silver, what still isn't clear; I'm sure that you have read the other posts on this subject?

You really need to work on your grammar.

The only update I know of has already been discussed in other threads. That would be for bug fixes and Vista compatibility issues. Search for Tom at Rox to find those discussions.

Who said anything about an update ??? Gads ! The American school systems must be in far worse condition than I previously feared !

I owe you an apology. I guess I was just over reacting to your multiple, negative comments with my utter frustration.

Since you frequent this board, why don’t you provide technical help to questions rather than making snide remarks? A couple of weeks ago you indicated that you had not yet installed EMC 9. Have you done so? If not, why don’t you return it and buy the Deluxe version or perhaps wait for Version 10?

You are obviously and intelligent person who is well versed in photography. Perhaps you could install V9 and help out people who are having problems with Video Wave or one of the slide show assistant programs.

Have you considered starting new threads with some suggestions regarding how to build better slide shows? I’m sure with your experience that you could make many valuable suggestions concerning things like timing, number of slides, variable regarding the use of transitions, selection of music, amount of pan and zoom, etc to make the slide shows more enjoyable for the viewer.

Most companies come up with a new revision every time Microsoft releases an operating system however here we have seven releases just since Windows XP was introduced.

I'm interested in what software you were referring to that is only updated when Microsoft releases a new OS... cause most of the software I use are updated once a year... also, I never have the urge to buy any upgrade just because it's a new release...

Comment would be overkill

Even if they make an upgrade path available, it probably won't be for months. Probably right before they launch the next version.

Upgrade? Update ? Esoteric comment? Poor attempt at a biting comment?

... I simply wish to attempt to bring to Roxios attention, along with potential clients, that their business practice of marketing an upgraded version of their software available months after the standard version was introduced is simply galling. This has become a rather persistent practice with Roxio as you will note from the v.8.0 debacle. Also introducing seven versions of EMC in five years (v.6.0, v.7.0, v.7.5, v.8.0, v.8.0Dlx, v.9.0 and v.9.0Dlx) seems a little like milking the customer to me. Most companies come up with a new revision every time Microsoft releases an operating system however here we have seven releases just since Windows XP was introduced.

How did you get this upgrade offer? Is it available for everyone? If so, would you know where to find it?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Did you register your EMC 9? And did you sign up for email notification of Roxio product, services, and update?

Go to MyAccount in Roxio.com and login (or register). Then click the Edit My Subscription Preferences hyperlink and sign up for email subscription. I am not sure though if it will still send you this latest upgrade email offer or there is a cutoff date. :)

Contact Roxio to inquire about this.

Thanks for the quick reply. In version 8, there were quite a few features in My DVD that were not available unless one had the deluxe version. But, do you know if you can get a non-hardware deluxe version? If not, perhaps Roxio should consider that as an option. I think 8 Deluxe was available without the Dazzle.

As far as Videowave/MyDVD, all of the features are the same. The Deluxe edition includes additional software like SoundSoap plus additional MyDVD menu styles.

Trust me. This forum and any email you received are not releated to each other in any way. Unless you just signed up for a new roxio.com account (which you need to post here) all the other emails sent are coincidental and sent to numerous users at the same time.

Let me guess, the next response from silver will be ... and you are Tom?:D

I owe you an apology. I guess I was just over reacting to your multiple, negative comments with my utter frustration.

As long as you don't work for Roxio, there is no need for you to be frustrated. I'm sorry that you found my post irritating however I myself am quite irritated with Roxio. There were many posts on the issue of the Standard vs. Deluxe/Platinum versions expressing the dissatisfaction of the consumers with how this has been handled. I can state for the record that I will never buy another "standard" version of Roxio's softwares nor will I recommend them to anyone under any circumstance.

As to the issue of "snide remarks", the definition of snide is an expression of contempt. It seems your right on the money as I find it contemptible that a company such as Roxio continues business practices that are the exact opposite of the industries norm. Normally a company releases it's deluxe/professional/platinum/whatever version first and then follows with a discounted lite/light/standard version thereafter. Examples are Eudora Pro, OmniPage Pro, WinFax Pro, Cute FTP Pro, Avast Anti-Virus Pro, and there are many, many others.

Since you frequent this board, why don’t you provide technical help to questions rather than making snide remarks?

I have provided some instruction and will do so more often in the future however at this time I have several projects in the works. Projects like dealing with several hundred thousand negatives from my studio, helping my two children get off to a good start in life and attempting to be a good husband to my wonderful wife. Also I have a 130 year old house and a pair of motorcycles that command my attentions when the weather permits. Perhaps this will explain why my posting to the boards is quite sporadic.

A couple of weeks ago you indicated that you had not yet installed EMC 9. Have you done so? If not, why don’t you return it and buy the Deluxe version or perhaps wait for Version 10?

I had reinstalled EMC9 on Vista and after a couple of weeks I've returned my system back to Windows 2000 SP4. Vista is an excellent start to a new platform however I found the numerous errors and lack of configuration options to be enough reason to warrant a return to either XP or 2KPro. I still like Windows 2000 Professional and it runs quite well on my AMD64 3K+ rig.

As to returning the softwares, I certainly wouldn't bother attempting to return anything to Roxio after having read the incredible number of complaints. Also I don't bother with their rebate program as every time I have attempted to get a rebate I've ran into nothing but a headache. That said I'll look forward to v.10 Dlx as I'm sure this application is only going to get better. It's already one of my favorites by far even though it seems that the developers don't want to listen to the end users.

You are obviously and intelligent person who is well versed in photography. Perhaps you could install V9 and help out people who are having problems with Video Wave or one of the slide show assistant programs.

I'll contribute where and when I can. Currently I don't consider myself an authority on the application and multimedia has only recently become of interest to me. I still much prefer shooting photographs with a large format film-based camera though I find the slide show capabilities to make for great gifts to the family. I suppose they appreciate them a little more than I do.

Currently there are several contributors to these groups that know a lot more about such machinations though, again, I will contribute where and when I can.

As to your concern for my purpose here in these forums, I simply wish to attempt to bring to Roxios attention, along with potential clients, that their business practice of marketing an upgraded version of their software available months after the standard version was introduced is simply galling. This has become a rather persistent practice with Roxio as you will note from the v.8.0 debacle. 8 Deluxe was not available without the Dazzle, unless you consider the download version. It still cost the same as the boxed version, as far as I know.

And, Gary is right. The main programs in 9 Deluxe are the same as in EMC 9. They are different than the version 8 programs, though.
