capture now not working

Deece

Question

I can see this topic has been an issue for some other users so apologies for re listing. :)

I have a Sony handycam (DV) which is connected to the computer via a firewire lead. I can see and play the video but the capture now button is grey out. I am running windows XP sp2 with all the latest updates. When I use Pinnacle 10 it works Ok, which suggest the Fire Wire connections are OK. I do not like using the Pinnacle 10 as When I try to burn a DVD is looses the sound (that is another story). I have checked John at Roxios tips and have checked that it is a OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

I am also try to capture using sony dv handycam and have no problems until suddenly getting a "failed to create album" message. I uninstalled program and did a clean reinstall, was online 3 times with tech support via IM and they cannot help! I was able to capture about 30 videos before this problem arose. No new programs I need to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :angry2: Can anyone help?

I hope that angry face is for the outfit that updated software that you put on your computer. Did you see the issue about IE 7 and WMP 11? Did you get recent updates from your anti-virus supplier? What other programs could have updated?

In the meantime, use Windows restore to get you back to where you can capture and then start adding Windows and other updates until you figure out which of those programs/updates is the culprit. :)

Since the program worked before, it should work now if you get rid of the troubling update.

Deece,

I've not read this entire thread, so I hope you have figured out a solution to your issue. If not, I'll share with you what I did:

I've been having the exact same problem with the Capture Now button. This has been an issue for me for two days now and I have production video that I must deliver to a local pro hockey team, so I was scrambling to troubleshoot and find the problem with this MOST frustrating of issues.

I've solved my problem and it looks like it was a device issue of sorts. When I went to My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, I found something I did not expect: My Cisco Systems VPN Adapter was marked disabled. Now, the only thing I've installed recently on my PC (subsequent to Roxio) was the software for my new HP Photosmart D5160 printer. This software package, when fully loaded, is a HUGE bundle of software, too many to enumerate here. As far as I know, this may or may not have anything to do with the disabling of my Cisco VPN Adapter. All I know is, when I uninstalled the HP software, then re-enabled my Cisco VPN adapter, the "Capture Now" button is enabled.

I'm going to experiment a bit more but not now as I have production demands on me.

Here's my work environment:

OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

Camcorder: Canon ZR-800 (Mini DV)

Software: RoxioMyDVDStudioPremierv9

Problem Description:

Media Import "Capture Now" button greyed out, but used to work fine. During the time this was an issue, I was able to use the Windows Movie Maker capture with no problems.

There have been some reports (can't recollect where) about the lead for the camera - it seems some work and some don't. Is it a Sony supplied lead or a third party one?

Strange as it may seem, I did google that problem some time back and people were reporting that high quality leads didn't work - cheap and cheerful ones did.
