Toast not responding on launch - can't force quit

MrLatte

Question

I've successfully installed and used Toast 8 before but last night when I went to launch it it started up and hung before the application window even appeared. Activity Monitor says "application not responding" and it won't even let me force quit.

The only way out is to do a hard restart of the computer. I dumped both preference files but it acted the same after another restart.

I do have a Firewire iSight, an external Firewire CD-RW and a couple of FW iPods and external hard drives. Are these devices causing the launch/hang problem?

BTW, I'm running 10.4.8 on a PowerMac G5.

try unplugging these... and then launch toast... does it work?

if so, then quit toast, and start plugging these in... one at a time, and launching toast after each.

start with the CD-RW first... then the hard drives... then the ipod... then the isight...

see if any conflict with toast.

also, did you install any new software lately AFTER installing toast?

I unplugged my external CD-RW and it still hung on launch. I haven't tried unplugging ALL devices yet. That's next.

Also, is there ANY WAY to get Toast to force quit? I select "force quit" but nothing happens. The only way I can get Toast to not be running (so I can try launching it again) is to hold the power button on the front of my computer and do a hard power down. I can't even do a software restart or shutdown because of the Toast 8 process still sitting there.
