Hello:

Is there a way I can trim the beginning and endings off the Proprietary Tivo Video Files?

Yes (in Toast 9). Once you add the TiVo file(s) to Toast, you click in the Edit button. Then you will see a new Info/details window for the TiVo program/show. Click (again) on Edit. Then Toast will open the TiVo Player in Edit mode (I haven't been able to access this “Edit” mode directly when watching shows in the computer; apparently it has to be accessed from the Edit button from Toast). There you can select via markers the area(s) you want to keep or trim (I'm not sure if you have to mark the area to keep or the area to be cut). Once you mark your segment(s) you “save” your selection (it only remains for this specific session for burning in Toast, and your transfer will remain as it were before in the computer) and then go back to Toast to burn or export. Back in Toast you will see the duration of the show after the trimming, so you will know if you marked out the actual show or the commercials, i.e. If you marked the wrong segment (i.e., it's inverted), you can click back on “Edit” and then in the TiVo Player, just click on Invert Markers and re-save your selection. By the way, the selection, as is based on the MPEG 2, it's not so precise.

You can also use QuickTime natively to edit videos. Simply select the video you want to cut out and then hit Command-X. Use the slide bars to select the areas. Then be sure to save the video after you have finished editing.

No, there is to direct editing. You can convert into MPEG4 and then open in iMovie for editing, save as a DVD disc image (see the Toast Help documentation for information about this) and then extract the DVD back into Toast and convert into DV, and then open in iMovie for editing.

WHERE is this in the manual? Is this done in Tivo to Go or in Toast?

Please let me know.
