stalled burns & video audio out of sync

angiecorby

Question

I am having multiple problems with DVD builder, for my movie, I put together mpg movie clips & photos (from my digital camera) in videowave in roxio EMC7 when my movie was good here, it is then outputed to TV/VCR as a windows media file - MPEG2 file & saved this to my external hard drive. Then I opened it up DVD builder and add it as a new title, arranged my menu & created chapters, then added an intro title with multiple photos & movie clips. I saved this project(to my external hard drive) & then proceeded to burn it as an ISO file, using disc copier, but it kept stalling & not finishing the burn.

I have been using this process for my movies like this one & it has worked & up until now I am suddenly having problems. I reworked the intro title, uninstalled & reinstalled Roxio EMC. Tried to burn my movie again, this time it completed the burn, but after burning movie ISO file to DVD in disc copier & playing it on my DVD player, the audio & video were way out of sync. I tried to burn another movie ISO file to disc, then burn to DVD in disc copier & the same thing is wrong; audio & video are now out of snc. I have been stopped in my tracks & cannot make movies now.

I have done e-mail correspondence with a professor who knows roxio, about computer specs, disk space etc; & he said my computer passes his tests for working with roxio, but he could not help me in the end.

I have tried many things; defragging my hard drives(external & internal) run anti spyware & adaware softwares on my PC, checking disk space, I had trouble with internet explorer 7 but I uninstalled that & worked for another movie but now have run into this problem with these movies. I even moved my whole movie project to my C drive off from my external hard drive, but this did not help either.

They are somewhat long about 1 & 1half hours long & have had success with longer movies than these in the past. I was told to look at my DVD burner, I did this & discovered that it was a "grey market"or "paralell market" drive; it did not come with a manual & I cannot find the model on sony's website for updates(is a sony drive). could the burner itself be causing the problem? in windows when I put a blank DVD in it it calls it a CD drive, when there is no DVD in it it recognizes it. Roxio recognizes it.

I have a Dell desktop dimension 2400, pentium®4 chip, CPU 2.20GHz 2.19GHz, 768MB RAM, windows XP home, version 2002 SP2, iomega 250GB external hard drive, & (as far as I can see from my original invoice from Dell) intergrated graphics.

I even tried going to microsofts update page & updated the graphics controller-driver but it still did not help. I have noticed also when I burn my original movie clips to CD from my CD burner just using windows not roxio, they are also jumpy & out of sync. I did not have this problem in the past either. I am at my wits end & dont want have to pay for a computer expert to fix this I cannot afford it.

thanks for the help but still no luck

opened my videowave project & clicked on the burn icon in top corner; roxio asked if I wanted to save changes, I clicked yes. Roxio began to load component but after a couple of seconds it shut down. My computer screen just showed windows with the folder where the movie is saved. I tried clicking the burn icon 2 more times in videowave & the same thing happened.

I also tried reviewing some of my ISO files; (in sync & out of sync movies) in disc copier & there was video but no sound, so I could not check for sync problems.

Also when I opened up my videowave movie, the preview pane was grayed out for a while but it finally showed up & I could preview movie clips in the storyboard view.

Before doing any of this I went to Dells website & found my graphics video driver & downloaded update. I also went to intels website (my driver's make) & it said there would no longer be any support for my driver but it had an update that was older then the update I got from Dell's website. So I just kept Dells update since it was newer.

Angie, I don't know if this will make a difference but, if you open the original production that you made in VideoWave, DON'T output it as anything. While the production is open in VideoWave, click on the Burn icon, which is the little DVD icon to the far right, near the top of the Production Editor.

Clicking on that icon will open DVD Builder. Do the same things as you did before in DVD Builder, and burn it to an .ISO file. Open Disc Copier, and browse to your .ISO file. You can preview that file, before burning it to a disc. If it isn't in sync, you don't waste a DVD.

BEFORE you do this, you have to go to Dell's website to see if there is an update for your video chip. Any update that Microsoft has, is probably older than the driver that you already have.

If you can't get an update from Dell, you could try getting an update directly from the chipset manufacturer's website.
