bob1066
I recorded a programme that was broadcast in 16:9 but caught the last few seconds of the previous programme which was 4:3. When I import to Videowave it thinks the whole clip is 4:3. My players adjust ok when I play the clip so the playback changes from 4:3 to 16:9. How can I delete the 4:3 frames so Videowave will then import as 4:3? Bob
ggrussell
I recorded a programme that was broadcast in 16:9Unless you have HD, NOTHING is broadcast in 16:9. Regular channels and even cable/satellite still broadcast only in 4:3 with the widescreen in letterbox. Only HD is broadcast in 'true' widescreen. Well I guess the good 'ol USA is behind again.......... Over here in the UK we have it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/digital_tv/widescreen.shtml As confirmed by the BBC.... Which is nothing to do with the problem... I HAVE a video clip that starts at 4:3 and then switches to 16:9; it plays fine in my players at the correct aspect ratios. I simply cannot edit it at 16:9 in Roxio> Because it starts out at 4:3 Roxio thinks the whole clip is 4:3....... Any useful information? Bob You did tweek me in a slap down way........guru.... ggrussell
Right click on the video track and use the TRIM function. That cuts ONLY the beginning and end of a clip. Make sure you set Videowave project as 16:9.
bob1066
Thanks, but it does not fix the problem. With the project set at 16:9 Roxio fits what it thinks is a 4:3 clip into the 16:9 window, so there are black bars on either side of the picture even for the part which really is 16:9 -- all the people are tall & thin. I need the ability to change the aspect ratio at the time of saving the file.

I need the ability to change the aspect ratio at the time of saving the file. Try trimming out 4:3 part, and saving the production. Close VideoWave, open it again, select 16:9 for the new project type, then open the .dmsm file. If that doesn't work, get out of that production, start over, trim out the 4:3, and output the rest as a DV-AVI file. Close VideoWave, open it, select the 16:9, then bring in that output file. If that doesn't work, I have no clue what to suggest except try the same trimming process in Windows Movie Maker and save it as DV-AVI. You could then bring it into VideoWave for whatever else you want to do with it.
ggrussell
Sorry, as far as I know there are no settings in EMC9 to force aspect ratio. You could try running the file through TMPGEnc. There is a free version. Haven't used it in some time, but I think you can force the entire file to be 16:9. Then you should be able to trim the ends. Question
