lynn98109
For starters, get a CD-RW or two so lyou can try things without burning CD-Rs. Just don't use CD-RW for anything you want to KEEP. Lynn

gi7omy
The errors you are getting are coming from the drive - reporting that it isn't getting data fast enough to write (the underrun) and the command retry is that it still can't write Check the DMA settings and also try using a cleaning disc and see if that helps. Also try burning with all background apps shut down
jimmytonic
Thanks Stargate fan! I'll certainly give this a try Strange that it all used to work fine though What should the DMA settings be?
gi7omy
They should be UDMA - check the BIOS that they haven't switched to PIO The worst case scenario is your drive could be on the way out
jimmytonic
Thanks for your help guys I also remenbered a suggestion from the error notes to defrag my hard drive and guess what it worked!! I used a cdrw as Lynn suggested forgot to configure it to not finalize though tee hee but it burned fine Now I have a new problem creator classic will not connect to the cddb I don't have the time to keep messing around trying to sort these problems out I am beginning to think "dump this program" and go buy nero or something However I do like this program when it works so if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful as will my wallet! lynn98109
It doesn't matter a whit whether you finalized a CD-RW or not, it is still a CD-RW. The re-crystalized aluminum alloy will still decrystalize over a relatively short span of time (generally months altho it could be weeks or years), and you can still erase it. For recording purposes, it doesn't matter whether you use R or RW media. The difference is in the media - the "cooked" dye of the R media is relatively stable, whereas RW media will fade out and you can erase the entire disc. On either, if you "delete" a file you do NOT get any space back. You merely remove the listing from the TOC [Table of Contents] so you can't find it. As to buying a Version of Nero that is current in 2005 - it is probably newer than a Roxio Version that hasn't had any software updates since 2003. It's like comparing trains and jet aircraft. jimmytonic
Thats interesting about erasing the discs but I cannot erase anything and creator classic tells me it is not a recordable disc? I take it you think roxio is better and as I said I would prefer to stick with it but I need it to work! do you think going up tpo easy media creator is a better choice Any ideas about the cd database I looked at another topic in the forum on this and when I click on help cddb it takes me to the gracenote homepage I have also tried opening i.e. to my homepage first but still get the error asking me to check my internet connection It was the lower write speed setting that did the trick with burning rather than the defrag I mentioned Thanks
gi7omy
The RW disc may be damaged which is why you can't erase it. I've had that problem myself (one time we had a power cut while I was doing something and when I was able to start again, the RW disc was totally fubar) The Gracenotes problem - that sounds as if the program isn't able to access your internet connection. Check internet tools and also your firewall to see if either of those is blocking. Did you install Internet Explorer 7? If so, there's a chance that has messed things up
