DVD Rewritable dsics

jcgoddard

Question

I use Toast 7 to burn data discs, and yesterday I used a DVD+RW disc for the first time. I understand the concept of the disc. My question is is it possible to add data to an already written on disc without having to erase the entire disc and start from scratch? Also, is it possible to just erase some of the data as well, or would I have to erase the entire disc and start from scratch again too? Thanks for any help.

What you're wanting to do is called packet writing. The Mac OS doesn't support this. So your only option is to erase the disc before writing to it again.

An option is to create a 4 GB temporary partition in the Finder. This can be created with Toast or created with Disc Utility. You can add and delete files from it. Whenever you want to back it up to DVD+RW you can erase and write the disc, but the temporary partition remains available for further updates.
