$30 Upgrade Rebate - Real Or Bs?

trm80439

Question

Has anyone been successful in getting their rebate check? I upgraded from 7.5 (and 7), and sent in the required documents. I should have taken a hint when Roxio refused to send the proper rebate form. Anyway, per the upgrade rebate form, this is what download costumers needed to supply:

"Easy Media Creator 8 download customers: Please complete and mail this form along with:

• A copy of your confirmation receipt for Easy Media Creator 8 containing your CD-Key from your downloadable product purchase dated between 9/15/05 and 3/31/06."

I have been informed that my rebate submission is invalid because "We did not receive the EASY MEDIA CREATOR 8 - DOWNLOAD.Proof of Prior Ownership for this product."

Had I been a "box" customer, this is what the rebate form instructed me to do:

"Easy Media Creator 8 boxed customers: Please complete and mail this form along with:

• The original UPC (barcode) from the Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 box (located on the back of the box);

• A copy of your confirmation receipt from your Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 purchase dated between 9/15/05 and3/31/06; and

• Proof of Previous Ownership - either a copy of the user's manual title page or a photocopy of the installation CD be submitted from one of the qualifying products listed above."

In accordance with the rebate instructions for download customers, I was to furnish the confirmation receipt for EMC 8 containing my CD-Key. No mention was made about previous versions. Was my error in not submitting documentation that was NOT requested?

Guess what? The day after I first posted, I checked on the status of my rebate and it has now been declared valid. The check is in the mail....

I think they did that I had said they had confirmed that you did, indeed, have a prior version

I did get my rebate, but I worked for it. I honestly don't feel that anyone is trying to take advantage of the situation, but there were crossed lines of communication that were unacceptable.

I got the boxed edition with $50.00 rebate...

What a nightmare... After purchasing the "boxed" EMC8Deluxe, I had to find the coupon to download...

According to the instructions on the downloaded coupon, I had to send in proof of purchse-- the UPC on the side of the box...

Guess what? the shipping company (digital River I think) did not send me a cardboard display box...They would not fix the situation by sending me a box w/o software...Roxio, told me to contact the rebate submission company. The rebate company did not have the autority to allow me to get a rebate without Roxio/sonic blessing... and so it went on the phone for several hours.

Finally a Roxio representative, told me to write a letter explaining what happened, and include a photocopy of the UPC symbol from my DVD case, and everything would be fine.

about four weeks ago, the rebate company sent me a postcard in the mail telling me that they had to have the physical UPC cut from my DVD case (it is held inplace with adhesive--it would look bad if I took it off) or they would not send my rebate.

I prepared for another fight....gathering my documentation...

Guess what? A check came in the mail! a couple of days later...Will wonders ever stop?

I think the problem is that there are several companies involved in this:

Roxio

Sonic

Digital River (the order fulfillment center)

The rebate center

I was more than frustrated, but I think they were all honest errors. I am just mad that I had to do that much running around. The onus is on the customer, who usually does not figure out there is a problem until they have the package unwrapped and it is a month later...

Now I have a product that runs much slower on my system and has more errors...

I truely believe that Roxio EMCD version 8 will be a wonderful program....in several months...

Be warned, the telephone technical support now charges...

Welcome to the world of REBATES.

Next time when you see a DEAL with a rebate you will know better.

Just think for a moment, Santa will be on his way in 5 months

I bought a boxed version and sent all the required info and got this answer back on November 27,2005:

"The EASY MEDIA CREATOR 8 - BOXED.UPC we received with your rebate submission is not correct. Please send the correct one to: ATTENTION RESUBMISSIONS, PO BOX 028516 Miami, FL 33102-8516."

I replied by email saying that I mailed the entire panel of the box that included the UPC code, I re-submitted to the address with a photocopy of the submitted UPC (box panel). To this date, I have received nothing, not even an acknowledgment of the email or the re-submitted material. All that for a software that I removed from my system because it rendered my system unstable (crashing several times a day). I am very disappointed and I am not recommending anyone to buy this product.

I never got my rebate and gave up.

It's just one of the gazillion issues I've had Roxio and EMC8. Lousy company and a lousy product.

I'll be reinstalling 6 and never upgrading again.

You originally posted 2 months ago and never did answer some questions that were asked. You also said you were going to re-install EMC 6. I see you have not done it so does that mean you have been using EMC 8 all this time? Perhaps if you had posted your computer specs, etc someone could have helped you in the meantime.

Closer to 3 months, but he is like the origianl "hit and run" poster. Didn't hang around to get help, so no need to try to help.

I had the same problem. I no longer have the email that was sent to me rejecting the proof of prior ownership that qualfied for a rebate. You may want to try to call this number 866-206-9132. I had sent a emal from Roxio of Proof of ownership of Roxio Version 7.5 Download version

This phone number was on my copy of the rebate info that was sent to Roxio. I beleive this is the number you need to call

Yeah, after my last experience with tech support, I was pretty much done. Shortly, I found a workaround for some very basic stuff - making data discs and a couple of mp3 CDs, and the like by going to the "Home" page, rather than accessing programs in the suite individually - so I got back to my life (and obviously, I didn't check back here).

Then, over the past few days, I tried copying several discs to no avail - as well as tried to rip an audio CD - it just got to the point of being absurd. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but this truly has been one of the worst consumer experiences I've had - one shouldn't have to work THIS hard to get a program to do what it says it does. As a sanity check, I brought it up on several other message boards I'm on, and MANY others shared similar horror stories (both of Roxio's customer service and EMC8 as a product).

If it works for you, Myguggi, then more power to you. Speaking for myself, it was a pleasant surprise when EMC8 worked and totally expected when it failed.

Well, technically, I can see why'd you'd say that ... the other half of this was my correspondence with Roxio. (I'll see if I can still access those emails.)

But honestly - have you ever bought a lemon from a car dealership? Hired a contractor who didn't make good on his promises? Bought a product that didn't do what it claims to do, or was broke because it was made poorly, or didn't have all the assembly parts it should have, and have no real recourse? Ever dealt with a company whose customer service was just AWFUL?

I'd ask that you think back to a buying experience where you truly felt taken advantage of - did everything you reasonably should have done, but were still out your money and stuck with said product - and re-experience that frustration. That's where I was then.

When I posted months ago, I'd already spent hours installing/unstalling emailing tech support, etc. I'm self employed - and when I found my workaround, I moved on. I'd wasted enough time because of EMC8.

Does that make sense?

I would say, the latter. While I followed (almost) all the instructions, apparently the post mark was 4 days past the deadline so they rejected it. Imagine that they have a whole process in place to handle that situation yet the actual program doesn't work for me and so many other people despite having more than the minimum system requirements in every aspect. Talk about customer relations! I started with like version 1 and upgraded every time until 8 but will not move on after this.

Thank you so much, Jeff. I called that number and got almost instant validation. I had received an e-mail on the 22nd saying that my rebate was invalid and I have been using EMC for years.
