mpeg2

Question

I have just installed Vista Home Premium, which I already like more than XP. I did a clean install on Easy Creator 9. When I use Videowave to make a slide show and want to burn I get a message that I need to activate the mpeg 2 codec. I click ok but then get a message that I don't have permission to do this and it is a bad installation. I am the administrator for the computer which is a Dell XPS400. Any solutions to this problem?

You didn't even get my message correct. I need help in solving a problem. Not a bunch of wiseguys

Don't "throw your toys out of the pram" yet.

I was where you are way back in December (mad as hell and going nowhere).

After much patience and following the advice of these guys (and gals) I got my problems, at the time, sorted.

Not every suggestion worked but I kept going. (As I remember it took a couple of weeks and much stress).

Sorry if I sound patronising but "keep going"

Which part of your message is incorrectly quoted?

"...Take roxio and nero and make a bunch of coasters out of them. This was the last time I'll buy either one of those products...."

YOU said that BOTH Roxio and Nero won't work - so the fault has to lie elsewhere. If TWO unrelated products fail, look at the common ground, in this case the OS or something else you have installed

I have same problem with Vista Ultimate. As per web-chat instructions I have done a complete removal of all Sonic programs and reinstalled. Still have the same problem. Has anyone posted a solution?

If your problem is the mpeg2 registration (which was the original query), try here

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=12074

If it's regarding the dla driver, that is being worked on.

One suggestion which seems to have worked for some people is, that if you do not use Drag to Disc, that you remove that using the add/remove programs (it's a seperate entry)

I don't mind trying different things to make the program work. I just don't appreciate the sarcasm of some people. I'm on this forum to find solutions not get wasteful replies.

I have just installed Vista Home Premium,
That is your problem. EMC 9 as it was released is NOT VISTA compatible. Yes, we know what the box says and yes, 'some' people have it working on Vista. As far as I know, 'officially' EMC 9 is not compatible with the final release especially the 64bit versions. We have heard that there is supposed to be a patch released sometime after the official release of Vista. No given date.

Listen, thanks for your help but im getting nowhere I cant even find an offline activation window.

I hate nero ans now i hate roxio. You buy their products and half the time they dont work or you have to jump through hoops. they would never tell you up front how much garbage you have to go through to make the program work. I sure there are other programs that are better.

You're the one who installed Vista. Wait until you see what else it breaks.

Tom,

I have had the exact same experience. Working with your tech dept I have fully stripped out any Roxio/Sonic program per their instructions and have done a clean install. After using a customer service work around to get the program registered I have the same problem. When starting any DVD program the response is that I must activate mpeg-2 before using the application. I click OK and receive the response "no permission-bad installation". There is no opportunity to get this registered offline as this board has suggested. Thanks in advance for your help. We are looking forward to a fix.

:)

I have the same problem and taken Roxio off, put it back on, done clean installs and tried everything suggested on this board but nothing has worked. Another weird thing is that I bought the program directly from Roxio with the cd and my cd key doesn't have 25 characters. I'm so frustrated and honestly this is the worst CD Creator that Roxio has put out. All this activation stuff is bull! By the way, I'm running Windows XP so it has nothing to do with VISTA. It's a problem with the basic program itself. Please help all of us Roxio support. All these past suggestions haven't worked. We need a solution and shouldn't have to wait until just before the next version comes out to have it solved. Please, please help!

Hi guys. I'm having a hard time following where Bogie is getting stuck. To fix problems we need to be able to reproduce them in our QA Labs. Once we are clear on the source of the issue our engineers are able to fix them fairly quickly, and our Customer Care department is able to advise customers of workarounds until a bug fix patch can be developed, tested, and released.

Let's focus on the issue... not the people.

Bogie - can you tell us step by step what you are doing, and what you are seeing?

Thanks.

EMC 9 is Vista compatible, assuming, of course, that you have a Vista compatible system with Vista compatible drivers for all of your hardware. Like most software companies dealing with a major OS revision, we are finding a few issues along the way, and we are working hard to address any issues that we find.

This is not the cd key. This is a 25 character activation number that vo one can find.

I have done this numerous times. There is no message about activating offline.

Bogie - that wasn't addressed to you but to someone else - I can't read his mind to know if he has tried it or not and I sincerely doubt if you can either

ok,I have vista home premium. I did a clean install of ec9. When I put on the videowave program or any other dvd program within ec9 I get a message about activating the mpeg2 codec. I clisk ok and then get a message that says no permission-bad installation. I do not know what my 25 digit activation numbers are. I only have the cd product key code for installation. There is no window that tells me what that number is. I cannot activate the mpeg2 codec and therefore cannot use videowave or the other dvd programs. If you need more info let me know. By the way, I also tried an activation patch but that did not work either. I hope this helps.

You think XP was a bargain? Talk about instability. Roxio claims Easy Creator is vista ready. Yeah, ready for the dump. Take roxio and nero and make a bunch of coasters out of them. This was the last time I'll buy either one of those products.

Read his post again, before you spew your trash. He said CD key.

I found the 25 character activation, quite easily, the one time that I had to do it.

Tom, I'm with you. I've tried everything to get this mpeg-2 activation to work including uninstalling, reinstalling, trying the activation method they recommend all to no avail. The other thing that drives me up the wall is when I put in my CD key it says it has to be 25 characters. Well even with the dashes put in there isn't that many characters. I bought the program directly from Roxio so it's not a bogus program. Nothing I try gets this to work right. Why can't they get rid of this activation stuff and go back to the old days when all you had to do was install the program and there you go the program runs. Whether it's Roxio, Sonic, 321 Studios and so forth, when their programs require this activation process that's where all the problems come in. I can't tell you how many times I've repurchased the same program with another CD to try and get them to work. So much money has gone down the drain because of this activation process. I'm running Windows XP home edition so this problem isn't only with Vista. These problems are just as aggravating as all these darn digital rights. They have gone way too far with this digital rights issue. Even stuff we've purchased legally can't be copied or put on to other devices because of digital right. There is far too much protection and it's hurting the consumers and costing us lots of money. Far more then the artists or software companies are losing.

gammy

Any thought as to time frame.... days or much longer?

Our Customer Care department has been aware of this issue since it was first reported on these forums... and we are looking into root causes and solutions. I can't promise a specific date for a complete solution for everyone and anyone... different people may have different specific issues.

If you want more immediate help for your individual situation I would encourage you to contact support through the "Contact Support" link... http://selfserve.roxio.com/

In any case, we are looking at this problem from a number of angles right now.

Thanks for your feedback and your patience.

I've asked our Customer Care product lead to look at this.
