CD Key issue

Mike1868

Question

I see how this goes, we get talking about a problem and how bad support is a trying to help fix the problem and the topic gets closed. How does something run its course when nothing has been done about it. Go figure. It has run its course when somebody at Roxio actually does something to help fix the problem.

Of course it has been about a week and a half and STILL havent heard from tier 2 support. I am thinking it doesnt exist. Just another run around!!

I still havent gotten my EMC9 working yet and wont restore the computer. Just not going to just waste the money I spent on PCMover to do a restore.

If anything new happens, which I am sure it wont, I will let you know.

It is a false read. Turn off the anti-virus.

ok.. got that to work, have it installed now, but now when i open the DVD project i get a screen to activate the mpeg 2, when i say yes, i get 'no permission - bad installation' which was the original problem .. egad.

has anybody gotten a fix for the 'no permission - bad install' for the mpeg 2 activation? I am getting that now after getting through the invalid key scenario. Of course the mpeg 2 activation was the initial problem and why i did the reinstall. But it's still not fixed.

The only way I was able to get rid of this error message was to follow the instructions of this KB article. Nothing else I tried worked for me.

John at Roxio closed a related string by referring us once again to KB 000127CR and use of emc9rmv to address the install/invalid CD key message. On my new Dell XPS 410 with Vista OS, KB 000127 doesn't identify all the roxio/sonic items on my pc (eg those under C: Program Data) and I can't eliminate some that I find (eg Virtual Drive 9.dll still remaining in the Roxio program folder) despite "adminstrator" status, and I can't figure out how/where to find others (eg the Roxio UPnP Renderer and Roxio UPnP Server showing under msconfig's Services tab, etc) . Moreover, the emc9rmv.exe continues to be recognized as a Trojan Horse by Symantec Internet Security and while I can double click (or "run") it with Symantec disabled, I am not sure that anything happened - it certainly has not removed the remaining traces of roxio and sonic entries,. (I assume that is what it is supposed to do.)

I am still waiting for response from second level support to a ticket that was escalated ten days ago and I have no clue what to do next but I am increasingly frustrated and angry.

I think you may have misread something. the KB000127CR is how to do a clean install under Vista by going thru the steps of removing everything. The emc9rmv is in KB000116CR and only is run so that the invalid CD error is corrected. It's not meant to remove all parts and pieces of EMC9.

That is unfortunate that you couldn't get your problem resolved. I do think that PC Mover is the problem, but I don't know. I never used it.

Sheri,

No, I never got anywhere with Roxio. There support is totally worthless. No help what so ever. I was told tier 2 support would contact me several times and I have been waiting 2 months for that to happen. Guess there is no such thing as Tier 2 support. I just ended up reinstalling windows, which pissed me off(wasted the PC Mover). Once I had reinstalled windows, I removed any Roxio software that came with the computer and everything has worked just fine since. Sorry I cant be more help to you. Good luck in your journey. Dont count on getting any information what so ever from Roxio.

Did you ever contact PC Mover and ask why it does not play nicely with Roxio?

i am having a similar problem with an invalid cd key. I have done all the uninstalls, registry deletes, windows installer cleanup, file deletes etc. and come up with the same result. i have tried downloading the emc9rmv.zip but to no avail, the page won't show. The program has worked on this computer before, but now i can't get past the invalid key.

no-one seems to have a solution.

Thanks for the clarification, Larry. I am still troubled that following KB KB000127CR to the letter did not clear all items of Roxio and Sonic origin and while I was able to identify and delete some, there was at least one instance, Virtual Drive 9.dll that I couldn't get rid of and probably others that I did not find. So the question is, should I try reinstalling EMC9 under these circumstances or will I then be doomed to eventually run into the very conflicts and freezes that I encountered originally when I installed the CD based suite over the incompletely uninstalled trial version that came on my Dell? (Note that I don't even know whether I can reinstall without key problems.)

Did you try the link near the bottom of the page on the following URL? It let me save the file.

bruce - please note.... i did not ever use pc mover. so i do not believe that to be the issue here. i just want to be able to use this program. i have no interest in bashing roxio. they make a great product that is extremely verstile. i just want to get it loaded.

thanks, sheri

Sorry, but I was addressing my question to Mike, since he is the one who started this thread in February, and I responded to his post then. He did use it.

I am having the same problem invalid cd key when tring to reinstall EMC9

Can anybody help with this? I tryed the clean install and that did no good the same message invalid cd key :(

ok.. go to this article http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000116CR download the file at the bottom, do the clean install directions as previously mentioned, reinstall ( i had to reinstall on a new admin user to get past the mpeg activation issue), when you get to the invalid cd key, run the above fix program, then try the cd key again. Mine worked at that point.

so far so good...

knock on wood, holding breath, fingers crossed...and whatever else!

The clean install instructions usualy work for those that have tried it. from the dll you noted, I'm guessing you may have set up a virtual drive that the system is still trying to load if it won;t let you unregister and remove that dll. You could try removing it thru device manager. I would say it can't hurt to try installing again, and if you get the key error, run the fix for it.
