Digital Copy Prohibit?

eytan_bernet

Question

So I am making audio CDs from freely tradable FLAC files I retrieved from Archive.org

I clicked the more button on audio CDs, and found that under the mastering section, for tracks, there is a feature called "Digital Copy Prohibit". This item is checked by default for every track you add to Toast. There appears to be no global setting for this. This appears to have been added in Toast 8 (I believe it is a vestige from Jam that allows you to make professional Audio Masters). How do I turn this off by default? Why must I go into every track I make on a CD and turn this off (going into one and clicking "Apply to all does not count - I want it off by default...) The documentation says nothing about this - can we please have an explanation and have a way to turn this off :blink:globally? :)

Thanks

Just found this:

ISRC: Use this field to enter the track’s ISRC (International Standard Recording Code).

Digital Preemphasis: To avoid losing high frequencies in the signal while playing with older D/A converters, the pre-emphasis feature was included in the Red Book standard. If this option is turned on, the audio material is pre-emphasized (high frequencies are boosted) before copying to the CD. Pre-emphasis is rarely needed or used.

Digital Copy Prohibited: The Digital Copy Prohibit setting indicates whether a track may be copied after being burned onto CD. To activate or deactivate copy protection for this track, check or uncheck this box.

POWER USER TIP The Digital Copy Prohibited option was originally intended to prevent direct digital copying using DAT (Digital Audio Tape) recorders. It does not prevent copying to other CDs or to a computer. It is rarely used, but part of the Redbook Audio CD specification.

Nevermind....

Still, it would be nice to be able to turn this off by default.....
