Roxio Creator 9 - videowave audio is scratchy

:) All of a sudden, while adding audio to soundtrack.. when I played it back.. its scratchy and horrible!! I have deleted it and added it back and it still is really bad!!! :huh:

 

also .. my music in timeline is gray without the blue dot.. I have checked the show/hide tracks and music is checked :D

What format is the audio file? Might be a codec problem. Does the audio play ok in Windows Media Player?

Couple of things to watch for

Always defrag your hard drive regularly (fragmented files cause problems)

Run a good malware program to get rid of any nasties that are running in the background (I use Adaware SE and Spybot S&D)

Shut down any background apps (IMs and so on)

mute the microphone if you have one connected (it picks up and adds in background noise)
