lynn98109
That's like phoning a garage and telling the mechanic "the car makes a funny sound." A lot more information is needed. Pinned to the top of the Forum is a post called FREQUENT ANSWERS. Toward the top is a list of information that is useful for giving a relevant answer. Please check that, and come back with more information. Lynn

Lynn Ok i have a cable that goes to the tape player then to the computer which takes it to the speaker computer you click on spin doctor and set everything up like you are suppose to and press record. When you go to play it back then you hear just a garbled muffled sound. There isn't anything else to tell you. I used to use it all the time and now it doesn't work. lynn98109
Obviously, something has changed - software has been added (or deleted, or updated or upgraded), or the Operating System has changed with Microsoft updates (and we still haven't been clued which Operating System), or possibly the hardware has been changed or something has become loose. We can't look over your shoulder and see what happened - you are the only source of information we have. And the only useful information you've given is that it did work at one time (as opposed to having never worked or being installed for the first time). gi7omy
To add to what Lynn said, if you have installed Internet Explorer 7 and/or Windows Media Player 11, they have wrecked ECD5 - remove them if they are there

Did the system get moved at some point? In particular, did the cable going from the tape deck into the sound card get unplugged? If so, it sounds like it may now be plugged into the mic input, not the line-in input of the sound card. Your tape player will overdrive the mic input and cause a very distorted sound. Check that and let us know what you find.

If you're not using the Mic input, you may want to mute it as that input can be "noisy".
ogdens
Problem is solved. The volume control for line in and mic. was turned down. Thanks for the help. Glad you found your problem, but......The problem that you said you had was "garbled" and if the levels in the volume control were set too low, this would not cause your problem, it must have been something else. Anyway, its working know and thats what matters.
