com surrogate has stopped working

Question

This problem appeas to be common between Vista and many applications such as Divx, Nero, and Roxio to name a few. However, I have sent five emails to Nero and all have been ignored. I just purchased Roxio EMC9, and the problem persists.

What is the deal with this error (thumnails) and what is the fix?

Thank you,

Derek

We know the source of the error and an online scan is not necessary. One can simply refer to the system error log within Vista.

The problem is with programs such as Nero, and Roxio. When these programs are installed, any video files displayed in thumb-nail view produce said error. This affects Explorer, Zune software, anything!

Prior to the installation of Nero 7 Ultra, and Roxio, this error never occured.

Thus, there is something within the aforementioned applications that causes the "surrogate" error.

The fix is to either remove said application(s) and wait for a patch or quickly change the view options to "detail." However, the problems still surfaces.

This is a wide-spread problem that Nero fails to address. I hope Roxio steps up to the plate.

com surrogate is actually a dllhost.exe fault

"...dllhost.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Windows Operating System. The dllhost.exe file manages DLL based applications. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated...."

You can use this url to scan for the error

OK - with Vista there is a bug in that the DLA drivers cause a hiccup. However, if you have both Nero and EMC installed, it suggests that the problem could be external, but I take it you know that you cannot have InCD, DLA and Drag to Disc installed on the same machine without severe problems

I'd recommend a removal of InCD and D2D if you have them installed (packet writing s/w is generally a bit of a disaster really and it doesn't matter who made it - it's a sure fire way to lose data)
