transfer/export video to windows movie maker?

williamscr

Question

I bought a nonreturnable DC10 canon, which is conveniently noncompatible with a Mac. The video can be loaded on my husband's Dell with Roxio MyDVD. But, it then needs to either be burned, or somehow transported into Windows Movie Maker where I can save it on my USB as an AVI or Mpg file. Anyone know exactly how to do this? Burning onto cd is my last resort since we'd have to purchase a burner for this. I am a teacher, and need this to use at school regularly with my Mac IMovie!

Why would you need WMM for that? The Canon DC10 is a miniDVD camcorder. Just finalize the disc in the camcorder and then insert that disc into your Mac's DVD player. iMovie should be able to import that.

Why not? Is it a DVD player? Every PC DVD player I've ever seen has the smaller 8cm inner ring for the small CDs/DVDs. Oh yeah, unless the Mac has one those without a drawer that comes out.

In that case, finalize the miniDVD and put it in the Dell's DVD player/burner. Open Media Import. Click the VIDEO TAB and then the drop-down list. The drive should be listed. Select it. Below that, video on the disc should be listed. Select the one(s) you want, select the folder for the file(s) and click Capture Now.

Default location should be My Documents/My Videos. You can then just copy the MPG file to the USB device using Windows Explorer.
