Media Creator 8

jfaulkner44

Question

Problem #1

I currently own Media creator 8.2 and have found an update to it. At the bottom of the download page it says if you did not buy from a retailer and have a disk, do not download. I bought my copy directly from Roxio and downloaded it from the Roxio site.

Since I paid $69.99 for Media Crator 8, have the registration key number and also made a disk at the time I downloaded it. How do I go about getting the update to 8?

Problem #2

I am running Windows XP SP2, Internet Explorer 7. Whenever I place a blank CD in the reader, (Note: I have a reader/writer combined) I used to get a screen when I inserted a CD that would tell me Windows could perform various functions, copy pictures, view slideshow, print picture, import pictures, open folder to view and take not action. I no longer get that screen when I insert a blank CD.

If I put a CD in that has something on it, I get the screen. In addition, I can use Roxio to burn data, etc. and everything works fine.

This is the reason I am wanting to download the update to see if the problem will be solved. I have not tried to uninstall/reinstall until I asked someone on this forum for help. My son said that possibly a part of Roxio got turned off and that's what is causing the problem.

Thanks so much,

First, version 8.2 came with a Mad Dog DVD burner, if I am not mistaken. If you have the version, downloaded from the Roxio site, I don't think that it is version 8.2.

In any case, there is no update for either version.

EMC 8 will not work with Internet Explorer 7 installed. You have to uninstall it, which should put you back to IE 6.

Thanks for your quick reply and yes, you are right, I don't have 8.2, I have 8.5. Sorry about that.

Are you saying that the pop up screen I described when I insert a blank CD will not work with IE7 or are you saying the entire Roxio program won't work with IE7. If it is the entire program, mine is working fine. I can open Roxio, burn a disk, do a backup, all of those things, I just don't get the pop-up screen with the options when the disk is first inserted. Note: I get it if the disk has something on it. Note: I do not have the Roxio product open when I get the pop-up.

Uninstalling IE7 is not an option because I really like it and I have finally gotten my husband trained to use it without him grumbling all the time. LOL

Am I getting that pop-up screen from another function other than Roxio 8? On my laptop I have Easy CD Creator 5 and have IE7 and the pop-up screen appears. I just don't know if the pop-up selection screen is associated with the Roxio products or something else.

Hopefully you don't think I am a real nut, because I do know what I'm doing, just don't know what to do when something funky like this happens.

Thanks again,

Judy F.

Unfortunately running EMC8 with IE7 is not an option. IE7 does break EMC8 (blame MS for bringing out a non-W3C compliant browser that made fundamental changes to the OS kernel at the same time).

If you like tabbed browsing (which to me is IE7's only 'advantage' over IE6), then I'd recommend you roll back to IE6 and download and install Firefox from

www.mozilla.com
