jnph
I'm running Win 98. I have the download version of Roxio 6 platinum. I've been running this for years now. My pc recently crashed and I'm reinstalling alot of programs. This program, at first, was only showing 2 of the 5 applications, but all are showing now. However, when I click or select one of the applications, nothing opens. I've downloaded the available upgrades but nothing works. The upgrade (Creator_v6.2.0.111), says "this update utility has been cancelled". What can I do to get this working again?
gi7omy
6.2.0.110 is the last upgrade made for ECD6 so any attempt to 'upgrade' it will cancel. When you re-installed, did you do a clean re-format and re-install of 98, followed by the apps or did you install over the top of the original? gi7omy
As it's already at the final version, update won't work because there's nothing there to update it. There will be no future updates (the program is a few years old now) and 3 versions behind the current one However I'm slightly puzzled by the fact that you say you re-installed 98 and uninstalled ECD. Surely if you formatted, it wouldn';t have been there

There will be no future updates (the program is a few years old now) and 3 versions behind the current one yes, but it should still work...right? I wasn't having a problem with it at all. My computer crashed, so I had to re-install windows 98. After re-installing roxio, it will not open up.
gi7omy
You could try a complete uninstall and use roxizap to clear out any leftovers - then re-install again http://tools.roxio.com/support/tools/roxizap.exe

I didn't reformat. After installing, I'm getting the "Error 1406. Could not write value VCD Joliet to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Roxio\PhotoSuiteX\Generic\Client\VCDOptions. Verify that you have access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
gi7omy
That's a registry error - somehow when you re-installed on an existing OS the registry got badly screwed up You may probably have to reformat and reinstall everything to get that fixed. However, try uninstalling v6 first and then use the Roxizap program first to clean the registry (it will say it's for v4 and v5 but it will work for v6). That should remove the offending faulty key and you can try re-installing v6 after that. If it still fails, you will have to reformat and reinstall

Have you checked for spyware with free programs like Spybot Search and Destroy and Lavasoft's Adaware? Spyware will sometimes cause the programs to stop working. Also, make certain that your machine didn't 'automatically update to Internet Explorer 7'

I haven't checked yet. I am running on Windows 98, my computer can't update to Internet Explorer 7. I've unistalled the program and just downloaded it again (I have the downloaded version). While it was installing, just got this error message..."Error 1406. Could not write value VCD Joliet to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Roxio\PhotoSuiteX\Generic\Client\VCDOptions. Verify that you have access to that key, or contact your support personnel." What does that mean?
