Unable To Format Cd-rw

acolotti

Question

Can anyone help me with a problem I am having formatting discs. I installed a new 8x dvd rw drive. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to format any rw discs. I have throw away brand new ones because the format function gets to almost 100% and then comes up with error message that the disc has 20 to 200 errors!!! I am using version 7.5.2.49. I have to format the disc on another computer in order to use it on the one that won't format. I am thinking I just need to update the driver, but the link on Roxio to the driver pages does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance

AC

Have used several different manufacturer discs. Same problem. Hard to believe all these discs are bad. Can format all these discs on another computer with the same software. Have been able to take failed disc from this laptop computer and format on my other laptop. Hard to make any sense of this. How do I get to the drive page of roxio to check for updates?? Their link did not work

There is no such thing as a 'drive update' for v7. It relies on the drive telling it what it can do.

You mentioned laptop. There is the possibility that the laptop is overheating or the drive may be failing. RW media takes the greatest amount of power to write to.

If you can format the same disc on another PC, can you write to it in the laptop? How about files that nearly fill it?

I am trying to use Roxio's Drag to Disc, which I have been able to use prior to replacing the drive. In order to drag to disc (CD-RW) I get a message that the disc must be formatted first. Hence, the problem begins and formatting is not completed(comes up with numerous disc errors.) Am I doing something wrong with Drag to Disc??

Seems like the drive itself is at fault , have you had it checked ?

If I format the disc on my other computer , Yes I can then write to it on the laptop that will not format it!!!

Kind of like the twilight zone right??

It is a new drive that works with all other write or copy programs. I have recorded DVD's projects on it as well. Seems this D2D portion of the program just will not allow me to format a disc.

Hmmmmmmmmm :) What make/model is the drive please?

By The Way grandpabruce , i also have a Sony CRX-320E Its A very nice drive to

Why are you trying to format the CD or DVD? You don't format either, unless you are using packet writing software, which is a bad move.

Yes it is, but I use it only as a DVD reader and burning CD's. I use my Plextor for burning DVD's, only.

Sony doesn't upgrade firmware very often for these older burners, but I have not had any problems with DVD read speeds or burning CD's.

You probably aren't doing anything wrong. It could be a bad batch of disks. I hope that you are not backing up important information using Drag to Disc. It is an unreliable program, at best. InCD and DLA are in the same boat.

If you value the information that you are backing up, use Creator Classic instead.
