ISO Images

redeemer

Question

Hi

I have this problem, and since I have seen no solution on the internet I want to see if someone can help me here.

I have burned some ISO images with Toast 8. First of all, every time I have put one of these images on toast the program immediately mounted it, and sometimes on the desktop appeared two discs (same disc mounted twice); moreover, if I try to unmount the disc the image file disappear from toast. Anyway, the burn went with no problem, but then I tried to open a dmg file using mac os x built-in system (DiskImageMounter). The application works with no problem, but the disk image doesn't appear on the desktop. I checked the disc with Disk utility, and the volume appear on it but with an "unknown icon" (the icon that appear when mac os doesn't recognize the file type). After a restart everything comes back to normality.

If someone has this problem too and has found a workaround (others than restart the machine), it will be very appreciate.

Thanks to all and sorry for my bad english :)

I'm a little confused by your description. It is normal for there to be two icons when a Mac & PC disc image gets mounted. One is the HFS+ disc and the other is the ISO 9660 disc. Toast takes care of mounting and unmounting disc images as needed when it is making copies from an Image File.

I don't believe you can mount a .dmg file that is burned as a data file within a disc. I think you need to copy it first to the hard drive and then mount it. Is that what is going on?

I know that is normal if you mount a disc image that contain an hybrid disc, but the ISO image I have is a DVD Video, and toast mount it twice because of some error, infact with the same image sometimes toast mount two volumes, and sometimes only one.

About the dmg file, it is not burned within a disc. I'll try to explain a bit better. After I have mounted this ISO image with toast (toast needs to mount this image if i want to burn it), burned it, and I try to open another disk image using DiskImageMounter (Mac OS X daemon), the program check the image file (as usual) but then the disk does not appear on the desktop, and this happens with all disk images until a reboot.

This happens only if I try to open an image with diskimagemounter, infact if I try to open the same image with toast "mount it" function, it works with no problem.

It seems that the "mount it" function of toast corrupt in some way the same mac os x function. Hope that you have understood me now :)

Thank you. I understand now, but I can't get the same result. My video DVD ISO images open with just one icon. Toast's mounting of disc images does not affect the mounting of .dmg files using DiskImageMounter. My only suggestion is for you to use DiskWarrior to check your System. I'm guessing there is something wrong with the Finder. If you don't have DiskWarrior try downloading and applying Apple's 10.4.8 Combined System Updater because doing that fixes odd issues the happen during incremental system updates.

Thanks a lot for your help. I use Diskwarrior about twice a month, and I try to keep my system clean running maintenance routine etc. about one time a week. Moreover I have seen that this problem is totally random, and I'm sure it is caused by Toast 8, because it began to happen only after the installation of the new version.

Thanks anyway, I will try to make a combo update of my system, but I want to wait the upcoming update of OS X Tiger. In the meantime, if you found someone that have a similar problem, please let me know.

Cheers :)
