MyDVD 9 - Bug!

Wildview

Question

Hi,

Has anyone experienced a problem with MYDVD9 with the main home screen disappearing and turning to just a black screen after you have created a production, saved it and reloaded it. Currently I have created a production with a home screen containing a background video and 3 sub menus with their own menu video background screens. If I run the preview it all works great however after saving it and reloading the project the main screen is just black and no submenus are posted. If I click on a submenu in the project view the submenu comes up and looks fine, but when I click on the home button on that submenu screen to go back to the main screen the black screen reappears with no buttons. Sometimes I have found if click on the submenu tab in the project view and click the home button sequence enough times the home menu will appear, but it doesn't always work. Has anyone seen this problem and is there a work around for it.

I have the latest DriectX9c drivers loaded and have the latest GForce4 video card drivers loaded as well and have also switched between software and hardware rendering with no luck. I have also called Tech support, but they didn't know what to do, as usual.

Can someone please add some light on this problem?

Thanks…

Try your project again and force it to software render. Don't do the graphics test. Just click the software 'dot' and then OK. Close MyDVD and reopen it. This will, of course, limit the available transitions and effects. If you used any 3D transitions/effects, you will have to change those.

Then open your project and work with it. Close the project and reload it several times to see if that happens with the setting on software.

If it does, I would recommend a better card. You didn't say how much video memory is on the Ti4200, but we recommend at least 128MB.

As for the 7300GS, I'm happy with mine, but one thing you should know. The chip is designed to use part of your system memory. For example, my card has 256MB on the card, but still uses another 256MB of my system memory for a total of 512MB. I contacted nVidia tech support and they said there is no way to turn this off. That it is part of the chip design. If you want a card with only dedicated memory, you would need the 7600 or higher. Check that 7300 card carefully. It most likely will use 256MB of your system memory and with only 1gig, that could affect your performance.

Do you really think that updating my Video card will correct this problem? since it does pass the video test just fine and it does appear to work until I reload the project again. It seems like if the video card was not up to par none of the application would function. Doesn't that seem logical?

I noticed you are running a nVIDIA 7300GS series card. Is that what you would recommend? and does it support dual montors? I think I can get this card w/ 512MB ram for $75.

Your video card only has 64MB of video RAM. If you get a better card, make sure that you get one that works with your motherboard.

You more than likely have an AGP slot and do not have a PCI-e slot, so just make sure of the type you need for your motherboard, before you get one.

That video card should work but only in software mode (slower).. If you have added any 3D or page turn transitions, you will not be able to use them. If you have one near the front of the project, maybe that's why you are getting the black screen.

You indicated that you updated your video drivers to the latest, here. Did you follow the instructions about uninstalling the drivers and then rebooting and then installing the drivers? The instructions are there on the linked web page. Look at the driver that is installed on your computer by going to My Computer>Properties>Hardware> device Manager and look at the number for the display adapter. Is it the 93.71? (Sorry, if you already did that.)

I have a portable version of that chip on an old laptop (32 MB) and I can run the program in the software mode without getting the black screen. Make sure anitailiasing is set to software controlled.

It should work but I'd recommend upgrading the PSU to at least 300/350 Watts.

I upgrade my box in stages (constantly) RAM, graphics, motherboard, CPU, RAM - all done in stages. It doesn't cost any less but it spreads it over a period :)

Ok,

I have updated my Video Card to a GEforce 7600 512MB card and that did not fix the problem. MyDVD still has the same problem with the Home screen going black after I create the menus, save it and return to the software. There is a major bug I believe with this software. Any other ideas that might be cheaper :-) then replacing hardware to address software problems?

Thanks

Did you uninstall the older drivers and get the latest ones from nVidia? The ones that came with the card may be fairly old (the box could have been floating rouind wholsalers, stores depot and the shop for anything up to 6 months when you got it)

Yes, I am running the latest drivers on my GeForce4 Ti 4200 card. I was thinking on upgrading my card to the GeForce 7600GS 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card. I'm currently running a 2.4Ghz 1MB system with a 250W supply. Do you think this card will work in my 4Yo Dell Dimension or am I pushing it.

I problaby should upgrade my Video card since it has been a while and I would like to keep my system a little longer before upgrading the whole thing. I would like to stay with the Geforce brand if possible.

Thanks...

GForce4 video card is old and don't support direct x9. Unless nvidia is renaming there cards? Give some pc specs especially the video card.
