Editing DRV-MS Files

Beagle

Question

I am trying to edit dvr-ms files. The software tells me I must covert file to an editable format and asks if I would like to do that. I say OK, and it goes and crunches on it for a few minutes. When it's done I get a file thats 0KB in size and contains no video.

Please help, I have several GIG of files I need to edit and convert.

Have you tried to play these files in WMP just to be sure they won't work? What are you using to convert?

When I import a dvr-ms file into MyDVD it asks to convert and then it adds it to the project window. Some have had luck changing the file name to .mpg.

As a last resort, you can try what's suggested here. I've heard about this program many times but have never tried it as I didn't need it.

Also, VideoReDo works with dvr-ms files and maybe that's an option. It does quick work of editing files.

When you add a dvr-ms file to Videowave/MyDVD, you should be propmpted to convert the file and for a folder to save the converted file. When you click OK, does it convert? This should take a few minutes depending on the length of the video. The resulting file should be an MPG file that you can edit. Have you tried a second file that you recorded to see if that works?

I have tried multiple files. All produce the same result. They say they are "Transcoding", this take about 30seconds, which doesn't seem right. The files are about 1.5GB each and I have about 750GB worth of files.

I uninstalled Roxio last night including all occurrences of the preinstalled stuff from Dell, all my codecs, and any other type of burning/converting software. I then reinstalled Roxio including the content CD. Now when I try to open a DVR-MS file I still get the prompt to convert and save, the "Transcoding" window pops up and again it says it finished in about 30seconds. However the machine then hangs and I have to do a power down reboot.

I have several mpg, divx, and avi files and none of these files cause this problem and can easily be opened in Roxio.
