PhotoSuite crashes on Start Up

Drew Wrobel

Question

I had EMC 7.5 installed on my Windows XP SP2 system.

I installed EMC 9, keeping EMC 7.5 installed.

Most of the applications under EMC 9 work fine.

But a couple of them I'm having a problem with.

Whenever I try to run PhotoSuite, I get the following error Application Error:

The instruction at "0x0040dbbb" referenece memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program.

Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

I have re-installed EMC 9 a couple of times without any luck. No matter what user I run this as,

even a user with Admin rights, I get the error.

Anyone have any idea/thoughs??

If you want both EMC 7.5 and EMC 9 on your computer, unistall both of them, dump all of the leftover folders and registry entries, reboot, install EMC 9 first. Once it is up and running okay, install EMC 7.5.

Follow the instructions in the following URL for a clean install. You do this only once, before you install EMC 9.

I went through and followed the steps for deleting all of the files/directories, left-over registry entries and services related to EMC9.

I also went through and made sure to delete any entries related to EMC 7.5 ( which I had installed on my system before I tried to install EMC9).

Before I did the install, I disabled any Anti Virus/Spybot programs I had running.

The EMC9 install went through start to finish without any problems!!!

I rebooted the system after the install.

I'm still getting the error for same error for PhotoSuite when I start it up.

I don't know if this is related to this problem, but my system was taking a good 10 to 15 minutes

after I logged in before I would get the desktop and be able to work.

I couldn't figure out what was going on. I went through and found the half-dozen or so services

that are installed and enabled as part of EMC9. I won't be doing/using any of the functionality

the services provide so I went through and disabled all of them.

Could this be part of my problem??

I bring that up because one of the services is the Roxio Watch Tray. And the application that is

run as part of start-up fails immediately with a Microsfot Visual C++ Runtime Library Error.

When I click OK, the next error screen has the following:

R6025 - pure virtual function call

Get the same error when running VideoWave.

I had NO problems whatsoever with EMC 7.5. I'm going back to EMC 7.5 for the time being, since I need to do some video and picture editing.

Any ideas/thoughts on what I might have missing or correctly on my system that is causing some of the EMC9 applications to fail. Some work without any problems.

Of course the ones that I use the most and need aren't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
