Easy Media Creator 9 and Vista

paulmer

Question

Installing EMC 9 on Vista caused driver errors after the installation. A Sonic Solutions driver error message showed up saying that Vista had disabled the driver for satbility reasons. This message showed on every boot. Co-incidentally I received a warning that I had no Antivirus installed after the install, as well as Windows defender being turned off. By this stage I wasn't going to mess around, so I re-imaged with an Acronis True Image backup from a couple of days ago. Hopefully Roxio will address these issues SOON! Nero 7 seems OK on Vista, so Roxio need to hurry up and release an update.

I prefer the functionality of EMC9 over Nero, but system stability is my main concern.

Just to add to this, I've had a nightmare trying to install Creator 9 on Vista Home Premium. I've had to uninstall it twice, as it's given me all of the issues described here - and, it's install has frozen my PC, necessitating a plug-pulling session.....

I've had Roxio/Sonic products installed for many moons now, but this fresh install on a newly upgraded pc is driving me mad...I'm going to have to spend more money getting Nero - that seems to install & work on other Vista PC's....

I'm not a newbie (just on these forums!), but this install is the pits....

And, there's no help on the knowledgebase - I know, I've looked good & hard.....

It's been posted that Roxio IS working on it. But, just because Nero and other programs work on Vista is no reason to rush anything. It will be ready when it's ready and working.

Not everyone is having luck with Nero and Vista. Take a stroll over to the Afterdawn forums.

I was able to get Nero to work or at least, install. Other than basic things, I didn't give it a run as I'm not interested in it. And, EMC9 works well for me too. I'm just lucky I guess.

The real problem is that MS released a zero day patch to Vista on its release. This patch hit some apps including EMC9. Both Roxio AND Microsoft are working on this. Until it is resolved, there's nothing anyone can do.

Howver, there is an interim patch available that will fix the dla driver problem, pending an update to EMC9, available here

The patch worked for me...no more DLA errors under Vista. Thanks! :D

This has been discussed to death. Check the final post in this thread:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...6858&st=100

Summary - EMC 9 works fine in Vista. MS improperly flagged that driver.

What kind of reaction is that from an employee of Roxio?

We bought your product in good faith

You refuse to answer our emails to your technical support

You close down your live support facility (probably because you didn't have the answers)

You refuse to answer our questions on this board

You mislead us with your "Windows Launch Partner" statement.

My advice to anyone who, like me, bought this product because it was "Windows Vista Ready" is to return it to the retailer from which you purchased it and demand a refund under the Sale of goods Act 1974 (if you are in the UK)

And to all the other people who post "oh, but Microsoft changed Vista at the last minute" - what utter nonsense! The retail Windows Vista was produced and distributed in early January, giving software vendors ample time to respond to any coding variations. We all understand that there are problems in writing software, but ALL other software houses at least make an official statement to say what they are doing about it!

So, why no feedback from Roxio about this .exe that RESIDES on a Roxio server?! You'd think it would be sticky at the top of the forums!

Sean

For the very simple reason that it was a fix for Dell - which is why we're telling you to check their website and that there are no guarantees

Summary - (version 2.0) EMC DOESN'T work fine in Vista (Business edition) for this user and by the looks, many others. That "improperly" flagged driver is disabled on every boot with an annoying balloon from MS. It can't be bypassed. Although I can't 100% blame EMC 9, although the coincidence is uncanny if it's not related, Defender was disabled along with the Vista security centre reporting that no AV (Symantec Corporate version 10.2.0. 276) is installed. So you'll excuse me if I'm a little sceptical due to the fact that without EMC 9 installed, my system is fine.

Whilst I appreciate that Roxio/Sonic is/are working on compatibility issues, perhaps they should be releasing beta versions to get people up and running, instead of waiting till the programmers are satisfied with a gold release of the mythical update?

Just a thought!

not see update for emc9 ! first see new emc10. & Vista logo

Roxio has already stated that on the boards that there will be an update for EMC 9. Obviously it's not ready yet as they have not posted it yet. And there is NO emc 10 yet. It would be the next version some day, and has only been eluded to in a news article where they talked about the free Roxio Central they've put up for Vista users. You need to read the information that's available more carefully so you get you're facts correct, and if you're going to post, try to use coherent sentences.

Where did this interim patch come from?! What does it do exactly?!

dunnpj1 - Did you read post #8 in this thread and follow the link?

Thanks - already tried that (no joy), & done CR127 - complete uninstall & reinstall. I posted after the third try. For info - PC is Fujitsu-Siemens ScaleoH (2Gb, 360Gb, Athlon 4400, 11 months old). PC was upgraded from XP Home to Vista Home Premium.

Before I get any posts back, XP died, had to do full restore from XP SP2 recovery disk, immediately before doing Vista upgrade - it was the cleanest of Upgrades, & everything else works fine (if not better - sorry to the MS bashers).

Any help appreciated, otherwise, s/w will be returned, as unfit for purpose.
