More Problems- Capturing Audio/bad Video

bmlaverty

Question

I'm trying to capture, through a Plextor capture device & using USB port, and I can get video but there is not way to get audio. There is no option in the audio settings to capture audio through USB port. Any ideas?

I have managed to get projects to burn finally, but in the end product the video is all pixelated, almost as if there is a slight zoom in on the video.

I can understand that my PC may not have all the fancy things I need for optimum burning , but Roxio sells this product with minimum requirements, I ought to at least be able to get a simple project to burn. We're not even talking a prject that needs to render transitions. It's simply a cut, cut , cut project.

I don't have the money right now to buy new video cards and more memory. I OUGHT to be able to burn without pixelation and I ought to be able to capture audio with video....Intervideo burns projects without that problem.

And the support is non-existant. Repeated requests for help have gone unanswered.

You are going to have to use the special software that came with the device to do the capture with.

After that you can manipulate the files all you want to.

Yes, that is what I'm doing currently. I just thought that the Roxio edit program offers more/fancier options. It also allows burns of more than 2 hours which Intervideo doesn't.

As was suggested, you only need to "capture" with Intervideo. You can still try using EMC to do the rest. Have you tried that process yet?

If it still doesn't produce acceptable results, you'll have to wait until you can update your video in order to work with the captured files in EMC.

Please, a little more information. What is the source of the video you are capturing (VHS, digital camcorder, etc.) If it is a digital camera, you will have to use a firewire capture set up. If it is not, how do you have the audio connected to the device or to your computer.

As for pixelation, please post your computer specs. It is better if you do so through adding it to your signature so you don't have to keep answering this question. -nc

Capturing from VHS using composite A/V outputs.

Specs- I'm not a computer expert, but I think this is what you're loking for:

Pentium 4 2.66

480 MB Ram

Video SiS 661 FX

Running XP Home edition

Lite On DVD-RW 16935

I should mention that I can create/burn the same project using Intervideo WinDVD andI don't get the pixelation.

You have a card or external device to change that VHS analog output to a digital input to your computer. Do you know what it is? How do you have your audio out from the VHS connected to your computer? Directly into your sound card or through an external device? With the Intervideo program can you get the audio?

If not. go to Windows/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio devices and make sure that the entry for audio in is enabled (not muted). What sound device is listed in the options?

Your memory is low for this program as is the on-board video. Is this a laptop? Are you running XP with Service Pack 2 installed. Your CPU should be plenty.

I can't comment on the Intervideo Win DVD. Is that a program that was on your computer or did you install it with a capture card?

Audio/video is being fed from VCR to Plextor capture device, then fed into the PC by USB.

Not a laptop.

SP2 is installed.

Intervideo came with the Plextor capture device. Essentially a smaller version of Roxio editing.

So far memory hasn't been a problem.

I have to admit, I'm not too thrilled with Roxio 8...it pretty much stinks at every level. For the money it cost, I should expect more...Roxio doesn't even provide support, which is despicable.

Can you tell us which "Plextor device" you are using? They have a number of them, so this information may be helpful.

To your system, while the min req might not show it, 512mb RAM is what you will find most here recommend as a min with 1gb or more being much better. Anything less may work, but not optimally. You SIS onboard video 'card' also is going to give you problems, as it has limitaions and almost all of them are not fully DirectX 9 compatible, which for video work EMC8 needs the video to be. You may want to consider looking into an actual video card rather than the built in one.

Support is available, in many forms. You can find that information here:
