Problems capturing at high quality

maltipom

Question

When I try to capture video with my tv card at high quality, or at normal quality using a size of 720 X 576, the connection is immediately lost and the programme freezes. The normal quality at 320 X 240 works OK.

Is it because my PC is not up to it or am I being a dummy and doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Hope this is enough info:

Mercury TV Tuner

Windows XP (SP2)

2ghtz AMD Athlon XP

Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis

1024 Megabytes Installed Memory

Primary HD 80GB Free space 58GB NTSF

Secondary HD 137GB Free space 127GB NTSF

Update the video card drivers here. The latest is dated today for your card.

Make sure that everything that you don't need to be running is shut down including the internet, anti-virus, e-mail, etc. Do nothing else when your computer is capturing.

I'm sure you are capturing through that TV turner card. Have you look at its capabilities? Are you getting any dropped frames at the lower resolution? If so, it will probably give you many more problems at higher resolution.

I just found some specs on that card - you'll need something better:

Ez View TV Tuner Card trans.gif Specifications

TV / Video Capture

• Full motion video capture up to 30 fps

• Video capture format: AVI, MPEG-1/2/4, DVD, VCD, MP3

• Still image snapshot format BMP

Video capture size up to 352 x 288 (AVI),

325 x 240 (VCD NTSC) and 322 x 288 (VCD PAL)

Digital Video Capture

• Capture and display video from Digital Video (DV) camcorder

• Record DV video into MPEG-I or MPEG-II and AVI files

• Camera control via GUI

Can't make it do what it was not designed to do.

Hmm, thanks for that, I'll get the update.

I can record at 720X576 if I just use the tv card's software, it's only when I go through EMC that I have a problem. But point taken, I'll have to look into getting a better card, as I would prefer to use EMC because it gives me so many more options .

Thanks very much for the reply.
