Copying audio cd

burkem8

Question

I just started using ECD9 and have not been able to make any backup copies of any audio cd's using disk copy. Is that because it will not copy any copywrited music? I have tried several different disks. How can I make a copy of an audio cd? I'm talking just about 1 backup of disks that I like. By the way, I was able to copy one of my data cds. Thanks for any advice

How many different CD's have you tried to copy? Are you getting error messages?I've got probably 1400 or 1500 cd's and have never had a problem making a copy of any of them.Is Disc Copier giving any indication that the material is copy protected?

I never get any kind of error message except that some times it will say to insert a disk in the drive, even though it is already inserted. I have a dvd reader drive and a separate burner drive. I have also tried using just the burner drive to do the copy. I usually click on the "copy disk" button and it turns colors for a few seconds and it returns to normal color and does nothing. I also have tried to make a disk image instead of a direct copy - nothing happens. I have probably tried 10 different disks.

It sounds like maybe you are using "Copy Disc" from the Home app.Try using Disc Copier instead.Get to it from the Start menu instead of from the Roxio home page.

If you still can't make it work from either place you might try a repair of your installation from the Control Panel.

Thanks tbrewst. I tried using the Disc Copier as you suggested and all works fine. Do you know why it is that the "Copy Disk" on the home app. doesn't work? Of course it has a different layout completely. Just wondering. Thanks again.

I have no idea why this is the case but sometimes if you try from the home app and it doesn't work then trying from the Start menu usually gives different results.

The apps in the Home app are more often then not Sonic apps and the ones from the Start menu are Roxio apss. Why the difference,I can't say.

I tend to stay away from the Home apps and use the Start menu as much as possible. They tend to give you more options in your work.

I have had nothing but problems using HOME Disc Copier and found Creator Classic (and Disc Copier which I have used since version 4) much more robust and gives you a level of control the HOME copier can't match (as if you are on the outside looking in with virtually little control of the Burn Process).

I would have thought the ROXIO HOME would just run DISC COPIER, and figured it was changing the application's GUI but what tbrewst states makes sense. It's not the same application.

I have owned both Sonic and Roxio (when they were separate companies), each had it's strengths and weakness. EMC9 seem to still be a major "work-in-progress", where we have to find work-arounds to get things to work.

I have been having the same problem that was described & used to use disc copier in v5. I am unable to use Copy Disc in v9. However, when I go to my Start menu, I don't see an option to select Disc Copier. I can select Creator Basic (which brings me to the Home app), Express Labeler, or My DVD Basic v9. Any assistance in how I can get to Disc Copier would be greatly appreciated. We've been wasting lots of blank CD-R discs trying to figure out what is wrong.

If it doesn't appear as a sub-item in Roxio Easy Media Creator 9\Copy, then you may have to do a repair installation

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and run from there

If the repair doesn't help, it could well be that the "Basic" version you have doesn't include Disc Copier. You would need to check with the OEM you got it from to see if it's supposed to be.

It is under Easy Media Creator 9/Copy. I see you using the word Basic. If that is correct, it appears that you have an OEM version of the software, and it may not include Disc Copier.

Thanks to all of you for the information. I do have a version that came with the HP laptop, so I'll have to check to see if Disc Copier was supposed to be included, as it is not.
