Question

My DVD will not burn my DVDs it comes up with a Sense Error code. Does anyone else have this problem??? Or Does anyone else know how to fix it??? I am using Dell and the program came with it. I have been troubleshooting with them but it STILL doesn't work!

CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) errors could be down to bad media or the drive is acting up. It's similar to the message you get when Windows tries to read a corrupted file

Try a different brand of disc and see if that helps - if not, contact Dell again and give them that information

Sorry I didn't tell you this before but... I have used TDK and the same error came up. I have also used Sony brand and the same error came up!

CD Freaks is the closest you will find to a Nero Forum - they aren't bad

However, I have found a few things regarding your drive - it seems it doesn't like being in DMA mode and prefers to be in PIO. Check either the BIOS or control panel, system, hardware, device manager and in IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, properties, look for the connection to the DVD drive. There should be a check box for 'let BIOS select transfer mode' Uncheck that and if it says DMA, try PIO and vice versa

DMA mode is preferable but only if the drive supports it

IT WORKED!!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU ARE A GENIUS! I SHOULD HAVE REFERRED TO YOU BEFORE DELL! I RECCOMEND THIS TO EVERYONE! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU TIMES A MILLION! HAVE A GREAT DAY! BECAUSE YOU MADE MINE ONE OF THE GREATEST DAY OF MY LIFE! :D

Ok....I'll do that with Dell or something since I don't want to ruin my computer trying to do something. I'll tell you if it works!

I have NO idea what that means. Here is a copy of the error:

Device Error- Sense Code(4 08 03)- Logical Unit Communication CRC Error (Ultra-Dma/32)- General 2130970627

Try Googling the error "Logical Unit Communication CRC Error (Ultra-Dma/32)-"

OK - get on to Dell and give them the error and what it means - it's a drive problem

I know but I have done this 5 times and Dell does not know what it means. They all did the same thing and it didn't work. I have had the same code ever since I have gotten the Roxio. It just plain doesn't want to work!!

(sorry if I sound lie I am mad at you I just can get very frustrated when it takes monthes for something to work)

If you don't know what else to do, just say it and I won't bother you...if you think you have something else you can do I would appreciate it if you could help me!

I went onto Dell Support (the place I bought it from and it came with my computer) and they didn't do much. They said it was something and the drive was fine but they probably don't know anything. The DVDs are Office Depot Brand and are DVD-R. I don't quite get the url thing. I don't know a lot about burning DVDs.

Thanks for helping and Sorry I couldn't respond quicker it is just that it had a problem opening the page for a while!

We all had a problem over the weekend - the board went belly-up :P

OK - what is the sense code error (usually a number) but it is definitely a drive problem

The link I gave (the underlined 'this' in my post was for here

http://www.smart-projects.net/help.php?help=305

That lists the error codes and what they mean

OK! Thanks I'll try that!

Did you check that url for the meaning of the code and what was it?

Also, what is the make and model of the DVD drive?

Sense code errors are usually caused by the drive itself rather than the software.

Read this for details

You may have to contact Dell about a replacement drive

Yeah that is what I did and it still didn't work but they said that the device was fine. I am getting really frustrated about it too. I have another program they gave me that is only a trial and it works with my discs really well. I also got another copy of Roxio from Dell but it came up with the SAME error code!
