End Action/Set Highlight

Pheral

Question

I'm a bit mystified at how this feature seems to function but concede I might be missing something.

Assume I have a chapter menu with 5 buttons, each representing a link to a movie title, so 5 movies total - Click Button #1, and Movie 1 plays, Button #2 triggers Movie 2 and so on.

I want to return to the chapter menu once each movie title has played, so I highlight Movie 1 in the project window, then select the Movie tab in the attributes window. I select the Chapter Menu from the End Action drop down list, thus defining a return to the chapter menu at the end of Movie 1. Now, after playing Movie 1, I want Button 2 to be highlighted at the return to the Chapter Menu, so I click the Set Highlight drop down. Here's where things get weird: Selecting Button 2 from the Set Highlight drop down gives you Button 1. You have to select Button 3 to get the program to indicate Button 2 in the Set Highlight drop down, and Button 4 to indicate Button 3, etc. But when you try to define a Set Highlight of Button 5, there's apparently no way to define this behavior because, as the highest button number (in this example, anyway), there is no button number 6 to select.

Has anyone elxe noticed this issue?

sorry, that is a bug that pops up on some menus that needs to be addressed. Here is a workaround for you:

- create another menu in your project that is 5 seconds of black

- put 5 or 6 black buttons on it that have invisible highlights (5 if the menu button order on this menu is working properly, 6 if not)

- do your end action to the black menu and set the highlight to button 5

- do an end action from the 5 second black menu to the chapters menu (without setting a highlight)

the result of this should be that at the end of movie 4 users will see 5 seconds of black and then after the black they will see the chapters menu and button 5 will be highlighted.

Thanks, Scott, but ouch.

Do you think this will be addressed in some future patch?

This will be addressed, but it is not in the forthcoming point release...

It's actually a pretty easy workaround. You could also put an isolated 6th button on that chapters page. Put it wherever you want, suck out the opacity and change the routing so it does not link to any of the other buttons. Then you can link to your button 5 from the end action.
