Ininstalled IE7 now EMC 7.5 videowave won't work

cjw

Question

I finally found out that IE7 causes my EMC 7.5 DVD builder not to work. I uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled EMC7.5, defragged, removed Norton and now when I try to access Video Wave to edit recorded tv programs (which did work before when the dvd builder did not) the program closes with the following message: VideoWave 7 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The Miscrosoft error report includes the following information in the error signature:

AppName: videowave7.exe

AppVer: 7.5.0.47

ModName: mpeg2vidcodec.dll

ModVer: 7.1.436.0

Offset: 00002bee

I had used EMC 7.5 very successfully on my computer on a regular basis for 2 years with no problem. I use it mainly to edit recorded tv programs for my disabled son (cut out commercials, etc) and burned to dvd for him to watch when he wants-because he likes certain programs and watches them over and over. He is getting very upset with me cause I can't do this anymore. Can anyone help me please????

I rolled back to WMP10 and VW7 still does not work. I guess I will try to uninstall and reinstall.

Rolling back to WMP was fairly easy. WMP annot be totally removed. If you have XP it will simply roll back to the previous version. Go to Control Panel and remove WMP11, WMP11 Runtime and Micrsoft User-Mode Driver Framework FP 1.0.0. Just follow the prompts. You can find these instructions on the Microsoft site.

Later: Well, so much for that idea. I uninstalled and reinstalled and it did not fix my problem. I guess I'll have to find an alternative to creating my videos. That's too bad. I really liked some of the options that were available. I am having second thoughts about upgrading to EMC9 because of some of the reviews I have read. I'll probably swith between Sonic & Movie Maker.

Thanks. I found the instructions on how to revert back to WMP10 on the Microsoft site. It is as easy as uninstalling WMP11. It automatically rolls back to your previous version.

I'll see how things go this weekend. I hope all will be OK. I really like VW7 and hope I don't have to upgrade. I'll just stay at WMP10 & IE6.

I've been pulling my hair out for months (yes i'm now bald). Why do the wizards at microsoft release these updates which renders third party software useless.

Has anyone been able to get the DVD Builder working again either by rolling back to the previous IE and WMP?

Looks like I have a similar problem, I've started using IE7 and WMV 11 on my Win XP machine and now I can't burn DVD's and I think that's just downright crappy. I don't care about the Media Player I can roll it back to WMV 10 but as a web designer I have to have IE7 installed now.

I think Roxio should provide a patch or tell us how to do a workaround or something, anything to get our stuff working again, this just ain't right!

In virtually every case that will correct issues with EMC 7/7.5. This is the first post that I've seen where it didn't help them. You do have to make sure you follow the instructions given in the link when uninstalling the WMP 11 tho for it to get completely remved.

Microsoft broke EMC 7x. They should be the ones responsible for fixing it so go bitch at them.

[sarcasm]Why should Roxio fix the problem when they can sell you a newer version.[/sarcasm]

FWIW, IE 7 was one of the reasons I stopped doing web design. Just got sick of trying to keep on top of it all.

Try here for instructions uninstalling IE7 and reinstalling IE6. In an earlier post someone has said that if you go into the control panel and uninstall (remove) v11, According the the previous poster it will automatically reinstall v10. Before you do anything be sure and set a new restore point so if anything goes wrong you can get back to where you started.

Actually go into start, choose settings then control panel, then choose add/remove find the program you want to remove, highlight and then click remove. Have you removed a program before?

Most people post back that uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 (and sometimes WMP 11) gets their Roxio products working again.

If that doesn't work, you might have something else wrong that happened at around the same time.

If you have a Windows Restore point from before you installed IE 7, you might try rolling back to that point.

Also, make certain that you've defragmented your hard drive, checked for spyware and virus checked your computer.

I've lost track of who has what problem in this thread. sgeorge, could you please start another post and give specific information about your problem and what you've done to try to solve it?

You have to uninstall WMP11 if you want to get EMC 7 to work again - that and IE7 wrecked the program. Both those 'updates' have caused problems in a lot of areas (and not just with Roxio). They definitely kill off all up to EMC8 and have even been reported as being problematic in 9

I have 9 here and have no problems with it - some people did I admit, but either the majority of people are having no trouble or are keeping quiet. Like any new program there are teething problems, but in general it's working for most. There is an ongoing problem with Vista, but that was down to MS and a zero day patch they put out. You have to remember most people post here only if they have a problem - very few (if any) post to say they aren't having problems ;)

I am having similar problems. I upgraded to WMP 11 and video wave has stopped working. Would it fix things if I re-install Video Wave 7?

I thought about upgrading to EMC9 but have rad some really bad reviews.

I didn't even upgrade to WMP 11 and I'm having this problem.First I up graded my yahoo mesenger which automatically upgraded to Internet Explorer 7. My video wave still worked but couldn't use dvd builder. The I found out about the Internet 7 incompatability issue with EMC 7.5. So I unistalled the Internet Explorer 7. Now videowave won't work. I've done everything....reinstalled EMC 7.5.. defragged.I'mvery frustrated.

It never ceases to amaze me when people who claim to be working on web design will use a browser that is totally NON-W3C compliant

Bill Gates, despite popular belief, did NOT invent the web - that was done at CERN
