Roxio Restore does not work

kgreene

Question

I cannot get Roxio Restore to launch when trying to recover files. Is there any other way to recover the files? (with toast directly?)

There are only 3 or 4 files (actually 1 file bundle with 3 or 4 files in it). There is one large file which spans 2 DVDs. When I launch the restore application it launches another copy then after a few seconds both just quit, no messages or anything. Toast appears to work fine by itself.

I have tried launching the application from multiple backups I have made, both on the machine it was created on (a g4 12" laptop) and a g5 tower.

Is there any other way to recover spanned files? Can I just cat them together?

How to join a split file using the "cat' command.

Copy all spanned parts from the various discs into the same new folder on your hard disk. For example - if you have a file split into three parts, copy Part1.spanned, Part2.spanned, and Part3.spanned into a new folder on your hard discdisk.

Open Terminal application

Navigate to the folder containing all the parts

Assuming there are three parts as named above type:

cat Part2.spanned Part3.spanned >> Part1.spanned

This appends parts 2 & 3 to part1, so Part1 will then be the complete file.

My guess is that you are using Panther...

Our Panther Systems won't run restore, but the Tiger systems will.
