Creator Classic Not Offering Maximum Dvd Write Speed

ponce918

Question

I have a Dell XPS desktop with an NEC DVD writer (NEC ND-3530A) which can support up to 16x writing speeds. I just ran a flash firmware upgrade for the NEC drive. Using Memorex 16x DVD+R media, both before and after the firmware upgrade, creator classic is only offering to burn DVD+R discs at maximum of 12x. In other words, it is not offering a menu item for 16x writing. Any thoughts?

Actually, it's your drive that is not offering anything more than the 12x for the disc that is in it. EMC queries the drive firmware and lists only those choices your drive says it can burn at for the given disc in the drive.

Just because a drive, or discs for that matter, are rated for up to a certain speed, that doesn't mean thay can all be burned at that. Different drives handle the same media differently, depending on what their firmware is coded to handle. That's why upgrading firmware is a routine maintenance neccessity. Since you have the latest, there is no way to make it choose to burn that disc at a higher rate.
