Get a Refund While You Can!

oldcowboy

Question

I have owned Roxio EMC 7, 8, and I recently purchased EMC 9. I bought each upgrade with the hope that the new edition would work better, but I have learned that each new addition is worse that the older EMC. I have spent many hours on the EMC 9 Forums trying to figure out how to get EMC 9 to burn a simple slide show properly. After 5 weeks, I started getting errors that my MPEG-2 codec needed to be activated. When I tried, I get errors about “permission” and “improper installation” I have preformed two “clean installations” as instructed on Roxio’s website. I have given up on Roxio forever. I just bought Adobe Creative Suite Pro and I will devote my time learning a product that has a future. I recommend to all that you get a full refund in the first 30 days as stated in Roxio’s refund police and switch to a product with a future.

It's absolutely amazing to me how many people that join this forum think that this is where all the roxio tech reps hang out. And for sure there has NEVER been a post where one of the Roxio people that happens to drop in on the forum every once in a while, have answered a post to help a person and been insulting in any way. And when someone thinks that just because an avatar has a picture and a name that says guru on it, it's surely not a Roxio Rep. We are all users and enjoy helping others if given the chance.

There are many of persons that have that "guru" handle that they have been on this forum for a considerably long period of time (actually years) and have helped thousands of users solve their problems---That's just a fact !!! So if you are really interested in getting your EMC program running right, post a legitimate problem along with some of your basic computer hardware makeup (In your Profile) and possible other programs you are running, and you will be surprised at how many reply posts you will get from those trying to help.

Frank... Just another satisfied user of EMC programs :) (5, 7, 8 and 9)

It is well documented in these forums that Roxio continually tries to insult or discredit anyone who confronts Roxio with how bad their products are and instead of sinlence or congratulations when a customer faces the reality of the situation and announces the decision to move on to better products only insults are offered and Roxio kicks them in the rear. These are sure signs of a company destined for failure.

Could you give an example of where this is "well documented" in the forums or are you making this up as go along? I have not had a single problem with any of the versions of EMC that I have used that can be traced directly to Roxio.

I see you only posted once before with part of your problems. I certainly hope you spent more time than that searching this forum for help as it's likely you'd have gotten it.

I want offer any since you haven't asked and are posting just to vent and that's ok too. Best of luck to you.

Hi there, just seeing this i thought i would add my views, i have purchased Roxio 9 in February, and yes i have had problems as you expect, but these problems were easily solve by roxio Guru's ie, Beerman etc.. I understand your frustration but once you get into roxio you can do amazing things! I have created slideshows and video shows for my family and they where really frilled to see a good production! Without these people i would not have done this quite easily. You should give it time and once you know what you are doing you will bee flying!! :D

You know what they say Gary - more money than sense

I have to admit tho that I do wonder about these people who announce they're 'just off to buy program 'X' at a cost of a small second hand car. Are they REALLY buying it or 'acquiring' it by other means?

A wise man once said something like “Continually repeating the same mistake over and over is a sign of mental retardation” Roxio acts like all it’s customers are retarded by expecting them to continually upgrade to the current version of EMC with the promise that previous problems have been corrected, but it reality, the problems just get worse.

Roxio’s standard repair instructions are to perform a clean install, over and over again. Roxio blames Windows XP SP2, IE7, Vista, their MPEG-2 vendor, their servers, anybody but Roxio, and they do nothing to fix these problems. They just tell you to keep trying a clean installs (over and over) or try an off line activation (over and over). Roxio could easily prepare a patch for these issues, but they focus of trying to sell new products instead of fix what they have already sold. As an example, within the last week, I have received two email from Roxio notifying me of a” Special Upgrade offer for Creator 9 Suite Customers only” and it only cost $49.99.

Why in the world would anyone in their right mind what to throw away their money for another Roxio product, when Roxio had failed us over and over again. The folks here aren't Roxio. We are just users. EMC 9 works for me, so I didn't throw my money away. ;)

I'd be very curious as to just WHAT the 'special upgrade' to EMC9 is - I don't think anyone here has ever heard of it. EMC9 and EMC9 De Luxe are the ONLY ones around and there's never been mention of any 'upgrade' for either of those.

Clean install? That's usually when something has messed up the installation. For example, just about EVERY software app tells you to shut down any running programs during installation. However - how many people install with security systems and anti-virus running? When it says shut down all apps - it does mean ALL.

Patches - there is a patch out for the DLA problem in Vista - If that's what you're using, then apply it (or do the sensible thing and get rid of it completely. Along with Nero InCD and other packet writing s/w it's totally unreliable).

IE7 does cause problems - that's a fact. It made fundamental changes to the XP kernel and managed to mess up a LOT of programs. WMP11 is similar - and also has very tight DRM. Both these programs were designed for Vista - MS back ported them to XP and they have done nothing but cause LOTS of problems (anyway, IE7 is not, never was and probably never will be W3C compliant - MS seem to want to rewrite the whole web system in their image).

Insults? Tell me ONE instance where any Roxio staff member insulted anyone?

Now maybe if you decide to get down from the soapbox, you might tell us just WHAT your problem is
