play movie or chapter, like professional DVDs

gregcdss

Question

I'm using DVD builder, and just wondering if there's an option, like on professionally made DVDs, that lets you either 'play entire movie' or 'select individual chapter'. So far, All I've been able to do is load two copies of the movie onto the same DVD, one with chaptering, and one without. But that cuts either the movie quality or time by half.

I currently have Videowave 7 Professional Build 7.0.454.0 ENU

thanks for any help you can give me.

Yeah, I too wish EMC7 had better tools for doing exactly what you mentioned. I recently figured out a way to sort of do what you wish..... I haven't done it yet, but plan to do so on my next project.

First, create a very short intro video.... perhaps 15 seconds in length. It can be anything you like, perhaps a scrolling set of words, picture etc. This will be the first movie or title you bring into DVD Builder. It won't have any chapters. Somehow indicate that this is the full movie. (Bear with me... this will make sense.)

Second, add your real production to DVD Builder, this will be the second title. This title will have chapters and chapter selection menu. Somehow indicate that this leads to chapters. It can be a special thumbnail or the text below the thumbnail.

Now then.... when you burn this to an ISO file, choose the option to play the next title at the end of each title. This option is shown near the bottom of the page when you expand to the advanced burning. Notice this is why it is important that the titles are added in the proper order to DVD Builder.

So, when you finally play your production from DVD.... if you select the first title, it shows the 15 second clip, followed by the full length movie. If you select the second title, you first get the chapter menus, but it always skips the first 15 second intro.

Cool idea, huh?

Not exactly. If you have 'chapters' and select 'show chapter menus', you will always go to the second screen that displays the chapters. Once you select a chapter, the movie will play from that point to the end. Of course, if you select the first chapter, the entire movie will play.

You can choose the option to not display chapter menus. Then you can use the DVD Player remote to advance through the chapters.
