Automatic unwanted blank DVD ejection upon Quit

RobCrenshaw

Question

I had hoped this problem would have been gone in 8. Maybe there is a good reason for this behaviour, but it drives me insane. When I quit Toast 7 or 8, the blank media in the drive is automatically ejected, necessitating me to reach down and find the fiddly button to close the drawer again. It makes no difference what the drive is set to do after burning in Settings. The only thing that will stop this is to manually select my other burner before quitting, which is not quite as big a PITA, but I can't always remember to do it. This occurs with an external Plextor 716A.

Do others have this problem, or is it somehow not a "problem" and I'm missing something as to why Toast does this?

Thanks. That makes sense although it is the opposite of the way I work. I want my drives to be available for inserting recorded media when I'm not using Toast. I'm wondering if you set the CDs and DVDs System preferences to Open Disk Utility or Open Finder when inserting blank discs, if that would prevent Toast from ejecting discs when quitting Toast.

Good idea, but unfortunately the answer is no, Toast ejects it anyway, and, in the case of Open Finder, leaves the "blank" DVD icon on the desktop.

I'm curious. Why do you want to keep blank media in the drive after quitting Toast?

I *knew* somebody would think of that Q and I was going to address it in the original post, but I figured I'd wait to see if somebody actually *would* ask that Q... :)

Answer... mainly because that's the way I work. I burn 3-4 DVDs per day, so my MO is to burn, check, and load another blank while the drawer is still open (saves wear and tear on the opening motor). I may not burn the next one for a few hours, but I like having the blank in the drive so I'm good to go whenever. But in that downtime, I may have to quit Toast, and it's annoying to have the disk pop out if I do so.
