Dvd File Format Conversions

valerieredmond

Question

Hello,

I have a question about file format conversions that I was hoping someone out there could help me with.

I am working on a DVD to show at the main program of our family reunion. I have taken some vhs tapes of our past family reunions to Walmart and had them converted to DVD so that I can pull them into Video Wave and manipulate. The file formats for the DVD files that I received are .VOB and .IFO, so when I try to open the files in Video Wave, the application doesn't even recognize them. They don't show up in the selection window. I would like to convert to MPG so that it will recognize the files.

I purchased quicktime pro because it was advertised to have easy file format conversion. But it doesn't work with the file formats that I have. Doesn't anyone have any suggestions on the best way to convert the files to MPG so that I can use them?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Valerie.

Valerie,

There are a lot of people in this forum who have much more experience than I do. However, I have .VOB files and I simply opened Windows Explorer, found the file and renamed it with .MPG extension - they worked fine in VideoWave after that.

That works for some people and for others it doesn't and they've reported audio/video sync issues. That's why I suggested the Capture option, but your solution works for many people and thanks for sharing it. :)

The VOB files are actually mpeg2 files.

The best way to get them into VideoWave would be to 'Capture' them from the DVD. Look for the second copy of your DVD drive listed in the Capture window.
