After repairing Windows XP, Roxio programs do not open

catsmeow

Question

We had to run Windows repair due to corrupted operating system. After this, none of the Roxio Media 8 programs will open from either the shortcuts, the Programs menu, or from the exe files in the Programs folder. All other programs seem fine.

I have tried to reinstall, repair, and remove (so I can reinstall) from Windows Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel. For all three of these, the process begins and files are opened, but eventually it always ends in a fatal error. I promised my husband I would not attempt anything else until I had checked this forum.

So, what now?

If the OS corrupted badly sometimes a repair isn't the answer but a re-format and re-install is needed. The registry can contain errors that were carried forward from the faulty installation and are still there

The best way would be to save whatever you can to a USB pen drive, re-format, re-install Windows as a cleanm installation and then reload all programs

You could try the MS Clean Up Utility after uninstalling Roxio - run that and delete any references to Roxio or Sonic, but you could still have problems. MSICUU is available free from here

I would prefer not to have to reformat the drive and reinstall everything. We have a LOT of programs on this computer. Roxio is the only program we are having trouble with since the repair. I have tried to reinstall Roxio, but I cannot. I have tried to uninstall Roxio, but I cannot.

I wonder if I manually delete the folders with the Roxio exe files, if Roxio would then allow me to reinstall.

Once again lets not get confused. The program from Microsoft is not a registry cleaner. It will not rid your registry of all Roxio references. It is to remove Installer references.Quote from the Microsoft site "Removes the files and registry settings that make up the Windows Installer configuration information for programs that you select".All of the other registry entries that have to do with Roxio will remain.

This should help if you've installed, uninstalled and then can't reinstall.
