gi7omy
Just got this from TechNet Ireland (why I don't know because it won't affect us) Full details on setting up, etc are there for all MS systems
Brendon
I wonder how the new DST will affect the Airforce. (Saying nothing about the 12 F-22A Raptors which nearly never made it accross the International Dateline the other day. Some software which couldn't cope with stepping back a day in time, and shut down lots of their systems ????)

REDWAGON
The site cannot continue because one or more of these Windows services is not running: Automatic Updates (allows the site to find, download and install high-priority updates for your computer) Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) (helps updates download more quickly and without problems if the download process is interrupted) Event Log (keeps a record of updating activities to help with troubleshooting, if needed) To make sure these services are running: 1. Click Start, and then click Run. 2. Type services.msc and then click OK. 3. In the list of services, double-click on Automatic Updates and then click Properties. 4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply. 5. Verify that the Service status is started, if the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. 6. In the list of services, double-click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and then click Properties. 7. In the Startup type list, select Manual and click Apply. 8. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. 9. In the list of services, double-click on Event Log and then click Properties. 10. In the Startup type list, select Automatic and click Apply. 11. Verify that the Service status is started, If the Service Status is Stopped click on the Start Button. If this does not resolve the problem you may request help from one of the following resources. Pretty darn sneaky way for MS to get the DST update on your computer If you follow the first set of directions to get the update, you have to have automatic updates turned on. Then it goes on to say you can also go to the MS download site and get it there. BUT---when you do that you get the above following error text, saying it cannot continue as you don't have your automatic updates turned on--The only consillation however is that it was NOT MS's fault that this change came about. It was some stupid governmental rules !! I'll leave my automatic updates turned OFF and forget about some 1 hour time change. I can't see where anything I do will do any harm on my computers if I don't get the update. Frank...

cdanteek
I can't see where anything I do will do any harm on my computers if I don't get the update. Agree Frank, I showed up at work one year a hour early in October. The clock in my pickup sometimes is a hour off for a couple weeks spring or fall. None of my home pc's run a nuclear power plant or air force strike force, so I should be OK....ya think? cd
REDWAGON
That's pretty much what I was thinking too CD... the first time I tried downloading the update. The only reason I didn't or wouldn't do the update was if you had to have MS automatic updates on, then I would forget it. However, I think the link that Jess posted will do the trick without having Automatic Updates turned on. You just have to fill in the bullets correctly, which I obviously didn't do the first time I tried to download the update. So that was my fault. But as you say, I don't run anything that official that would make my computer get screwed up if I didn't install the update. I followed the update sequence the second time and it did install all O.K. So I guess now I can run a nuclear power plant or start one of those Air force Strike Force teams !!! Frank... gi7omy
I've actually a far simpler solution - as I use my computer for logging ham radio contacts, it STAYS on Zulu time no matter what the clock may say
lynn98109
Actually, the computer is expected to carry its own weight on the time (all 3 of them actually), and I have one timepiece I change. The others stay put - when I was listening to shortwave radio, I needed to be able to calculate UTC, and it was easier to deal with a flat 8 hours. OK, so some springs I was an hour late to work one day (not the beginning, either); I could still calculate UTC easily Lynn
gi7omy
Calculation to UTC/Zulu/GMT is no problem (after all, in the winter that IS my time and in summer we go ahead by one hour). It's log entries for QSOs (two way contacts) that MUST be timestamped in UTC, hence the computer being locked to that. I just uncheck the daylight savings box is all
