dancingrma
Hey, thanks. I was having trouble with making menus. I knew how to do it in Studio but could not do it here. The videos are a BIG help. Will try to do my own sports thing now and hopefully come out with something special. Will watch for more helpful hints as it sure saves some trial & error! I have an ATI Radeon 300 series video card. Dell says that is enough.. 1 1/2 gigs memory. Still get lock ups sometimes but maybe this will help. Can anyone think of any other thing that might help me make movies faster? Aspect a question too. Panasonic digital camera...can I still choose 16-9 or whatever instead of 4:3 (numbers may not be right??) or should I stick with smaller. Have plasma HD TV and so do the kids. Did you update the drivers for that card? There was one at the end of Feb 2007 if you are using XP. Follow the instructions for installation. Usually the only thing that will make movies faster is to have compliant mpg2 files to start with and not do any editing. Other than that, the CPU speed along with the video card control the speed. How long is it taking you to encode a movie? I don't think there is significant difference in encoding time for 4:3 or 16:9. Someday you will have to explain "dancing grandma"
dancingrma
Just updated the video card two days ago and that did help. Also just found out that when adding video you have to type in exactly the name of the video that you want to add. In studio, they ask you what you want the "new" name to be of your production so I wasn't getting any response! So now will try to put this thing together. I will be 70 years old this year and teach country line dancing to a group of Red Hat Ladies and a beginner's class. We dance 3 times a week for fun and do shows for nursing homes, expos etc. We know 50 dances and between making movies and this, it helps keep my mind a little more alert!! Sometimes, I get really, really, frustrated with this computer business though. Did not get one until after I retired and started out with WebTV in 1999. Now it is my hobby besides sports (watching grandchildren) and dancing!

Now that you have the drivers update, make sure that you have the card set to best performance or performance, and the anisotropic filters and antialiasing set to software controlled. You can make the changes using the control panel for your card. Thanks for the information on the dancing part. I am more and more amazed that people out age seem to be able to work out problems on their computers better than those young whippersnappers ( whatever that is) who grew up with them. You might want to consider using putting your computer specs into your signature on this site. Use the My Controls option at the top of this page and then look to the left to edit signature. Look at what some of the other people have in their signature to see what kind of information to post. Use Belarc Advisor to get the information on your computer if you don't know it. Rayi
>Video on how to do it here. Thanks for that link. I'm starting to get the hang of it. I was totally lost in the beginning. The difficulty seems to be orienting your self to the various levels of menus and production and how to access them in order to edit them. Although, Roxio 9 sure is demanding. At various times, I just freeze and have to sometimes do a forced shutdown. I try to do alot of saving my work. This AMD Barton 3200+ is taking a toll. The 1.25 gig of memory doesn't seem to be enough at times, espcially if I have other apps on.
dancingrma
Thanks for the compliments but I don't have any idea what you are talking about in the first paragraph. don't have time right now to try to digest it. I did just get my first movie made but without making a special menu as I would have liked. Wish they had more sports menus already made up. I did add better music...can't say much for theirs. If I can find this site again, I will get back with specs etc. Am leary of downloading any programs that I don't know anything about. And am afraid I am terrible when it comes to remembering to restart the virus program after making a disk. Hopefully, I don't go to any suspect sites but who knows? Got it going now though. I burned my disc at 12 speed. Could have gone 16 but then are there more chances for rejection??? Esp runtime???

There is one from November 2006 if you are running XP. Update DirectX 9c if you haven't done that lately. Also use the video card control panel to set the card to performance or best performance and away from appearance when you are working in this program. Make sure that the anisotropic filters and antiailising is set to program controlled. It seems like the most common cause of hangups is outdated drivers and/or incorrect settings. Any video work takes a lot of CPU; it is best to not have anything else running including the internet, e-mail, and even anti-virus and anti-malware. Some can get away with it; some can't.
