Creator Basic v9 - New HP Vista included program

lghbob

Question

First of all... There is no CD to install... Roxio was on the system when I got it 2 weeks ago.

It was on my new HP, w/ Vista Home Premium

Dunno if it worked or not in the beginning, but it was installed.

When I tried to use it yesterday, I clicked on the program shortcut, and an install program came up, and ran thru until stopping and showing a "can't find" RCP_CORE_33 indicating a location in an HP TMP file on my c: drive...

This location didn't exist so I looked for an install file under common files...

"Wizard" came up asking for rcpcore.msi, which I found in the HP Restore partition. This ran thru thru and cam up with some other error.

I then uninstalled the Roxio Program, and tried to reinstall... but nothing to reinstall from... no disk.

Next, did a Vista System Restore, and the files all came back, but this time, when trying to use file, it comes up with "missing or corrupted" certificate.

Frustrating... Am not a programmer... don't understand a lot of what's going on, but the constant reference in all of the forums, to the installation disk... makes me wonder if buying the HP was a good Idea. (no backup disks) I suppose that Roxio won't want to get involved... So the answer will probably be a full Vista reinstall, which I'm not going to do. Seems to me that if HP buys the license for Roxio, that it should include support...

This is not the end of the world, but It would be nice to have seen some kind of support for software which is included with a new computer. After looking around the forum, can't find but a few references to this "included software"... and those questions didn't get any answers.

I've got about three hours into trying to fix this on my own... Not worth it. Will wait ... hopefully for some kind of solution... but if not found, will have to plunk down some $$$ for what I already paid for.

Thanks in advance for any solutions short of reinstalling my whole system.

I am having the same problem. Creator worked fine until today and then would not see my drive. I did a full uninstall per 000127cr and then reinstalled from the recovery app that came with my new HP PC. I'm getting the same error: Certificate file missing or corrupt. Please install certificate file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Gary...

Thank you for the quick reply.

About the HP Backup Disk... Sheesh... When I tried to use that --- right after I got the new computer, it didn't work. I guess this is where my frustration began.

I spent about 1 1/2 hours with an online tech, who couldn't help me make the back up disk set, and promised to send be a backup set the next day.

I waited 10 days and finally went back to the online tech site, and talked to a guy who checked, and said that the disks weren't available yet, but would be sent out when they were available. Two days later, I got an email with tracking information, but still not available.

That's the reason I woun't go to the built-in back-up restore for the entire system... I didn't want to lose everything, with no way to restart.

And yeah... It sure would be helpful to have an "application install" disk. Except for the Roxio problem, everything else is working great, so I guess I'll have to write it off to experience. I'm so happy with the rest of the system that I'll just have to buy a burning program. I'm afraid that... based on this experience, it won't be Roxio.

Would you agree that this brings up an interesting question (which was inferred by the other post on this thread) ... Who should be responsible for software includes on a new machine? The system also included a version of Microsoft Works. Is HP responsible for all programs included on an OE version of their software?

Just a philosophical question. Not yours to answer, I know. Just another one of the "birthing" problems of Vista. I have valid copies of older versions of Roxio, as well as Nero, on my older machines... but of course they won't work on Vista. A nice "boon" to software companies, who will benefit by the incompatibility situation.

I believe that this kind of situation is providing a big plus to the open source people, who probably feel that the failure to support current software mitigates their theft of source coding. Tht's not for us to judge, though... is it?

Again, thanks for the quick reply. I've read an number of the posts on this forum, and believe you do a great job with "help".

Who is responsible for OEM software - believe it or not the OEM (in your case HP). When they get a 'bespoke' version, they also accept the responsibility for support (but they have a nasty habit of trying to wriggle out of that and pass it back to the original company). We'll try to help here, but as you can guess, we don't know what is or isn't included on the HP version really

However, I do take serious offence at your remark "...the open source people, who probably feel that the failure to support current software mitigates their theft of source coding..." That is downright untrue. In fact, it works the other way round. SCO is trying to claim the patents on open source s/w and is losing the case rapidly. Open Source is NOT plagiarised, stolen or anything else: it is, as it says, open source, free for anyone to use or modify as they wish

I have the same problem on my Evesham. Certificate file not found or corrupted, When I try to repair the system fails with the same error. I have tried a reinstall and that fails with a Incorrect CD Key entered. I a attempting to reinstall using an OEM disc supplied by Evesham clearly marked Creator 9Xe. When the reinstall fails the software is looking for a89Xe.msi file while the only similar filw on the cd is **9.msi only

any ideas?

I fiddled with the install as it wouldn't work claiming that there were no resources or devices that it could see!

Nicko with a headache

oops a typo

EasyCreator 9xe.msi is aksed for when I only have Easy Creator 9.msi on the cd

Doesn't the new HP have the Application Recovery app? Look here:

Start>Programs>HP>PC Help & Tools>HP Application Recovery

This application will help you recover a single application.

Daithi is correct. The OEM is responsible. Some OEMs get a 'special' version and depending on the contract may have modified the application themselves. This doesn't apply to just Roxio products. Just like 'free' versions that come with DVD burners. Sometimes the manufacturer of the burner may modify the software to work better with their particular drive.

Hi I am having the same problem and H.P. tech support is of no help they told me I need to do a full system restore. They also told me to try some things that weren't even possible. I tried to phone them after their chap sessions wouldn't resolve the problem and the tech spoke such poor english that I just gave up I hope some one can come up with a way to install the file!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to seem blunt, but why are you posting this here? The logical solution would be to contact HP, since they installed it on your computer.

All new HP computers have the option of creating your own CD or DVD backup discs. Look under:

Start>Programs>HP> PC Help & Tools

Program is called HP PC Recovery CD-DVD Creator

You can only create these discs ONCE. So don't lose them!!! Thing is though, if you use the disc to recover, you can burn a second copy that way. :)

There should also be another program "HP Application Recovery" which should allow to recover only Creator Basic 9.
