Photo disc question

JHJ

Question

I bought Toast 8 so I could send Christmas photos to my siblings who use PC's. So, I loaded up a DVD using the Data>Photo Disc option, made sure it worked using the disc image, burned a test DVD to make sure it worked on my MacBook, ran the slide show, and all was well.

However, my siblings can't get it to work. Apparently, one of their computer gurus suggested that the lack of ".jpg" extension on the photo files has created a problem. The photos were renamed using iPhoto, but the exported images that I used (example name "Christmas 2002 - 1") all had preview icons of the photo, so my MacBook could tell they were photos. Could this be the reason, or would there be another problem. I'm surprised that Toast wouldn't take this into consideration when making a Photo Disc.

That could be the reason. When you exported from iPhoto you should check the box that reads "Use Extension" so it will appear in the file name.

When using Toast's Media browser to add photos from iPhoto, Toast automatically includes the extension in the file name.

Looks like that was the problem. I used "R-Name" software to do a batch name change & added the ".jpg" and made another disc. I was unaware of the "Use Extension" check box, so thanks for the tip.

Interestingly, the resulting photo disc auto-starts a photo-view software with slideshow option in the PC. To actually get to the folder with photos, you have to "right-click" the drive icon and choose "open", which bypasses the auto-run stuff. On the Mac, the same disc has icons for 1) viewing a slide show, 2) adding photos to iPhoto, and 3) the picture folder.

Thanks so much for the response.
