Disc COpier not work

Bubbard

Question

Hello.

I am now getting ticked off at Roxio 9. Have my engagement DVD (not copyrighted). Am trying to make a direct copy to another DVD (DVD-R). It was made by a professional videographer. Am trying to make copies to send to others (we have permission). Roxio does do about 4% of it and then it just says it can' t do it and there is a disk error. I try again...this time it is 98% done and it says "write error...an error occured while writing the disc in this drive."...For the source (engagment DVD) drive, it says unrecovered read error - Medium error"

This program should be able to copy over a simple DVD. Why can't it? I have tried with Pinnacle (it can import, but there is no sound)...I tried with sonic...some kind of write error..

Please advise as I am thinking about just paying someone.

Sounds like something is probably interrupting the data flow. Instead of trying to copy direct from disc to disc, use Disc Copier to burn the original to an image file (.iso) on your hard drive. Then use Disc Copier to burn that image file to a disc. If that works, just re-use that image file to make the additional copies. It's the preffered process anyway if planning to burn multiple copies. Also, make sure you turn off any un-needed background processes and disable your antivirus. Some of those could be slowing down and/or interrupting the data flow causing it to error out.

Are you trying to make a DVD-to-DVD copy? Are all your burner drivers updated? Have you tried to first create an iso file of the DVD and then burn the iso file to a DVD.

Could you please list your system specs including burners.

Hello.

I have an HP Pavillion using windows XP with a lightscribe DVD burner and a DVD-ROm. Would someone please explain the process to save the image to disk (and what that means)...I will then do what you say. Interestingly, when it copied about 90% of it, I played the disk and it actually did already encode about 90% of it...I thought you needed 100% for it to work. I'll try to close the virus checker if necessary.

Yes, I was making DVD-DVD copy.

Thank you.

BJ

In the destination section (right hand side) change from the selection from the drive to an image file. You'll then get to select the location and file name you want to give it when you "burn" it to the image file. You'll end up with an <filename you picked>.iso image file on your drive then. An image file is is basically just what the name implies, it's an image of the disc stored in the file. Then in disc copier, choose the newley created image file as your source and your burner drive as your destination to burn the image to a disc.
