Saving a data file to a CDRW

worahm

Question

When I updated to WinsXP I purchased Roxio EMC9 Suite because EC4 was not supported by WinsXP. Using EMC9, when I try to save a document to the Sony CDRW, The data appears to be there. However, after opening and closing the drawer, the data is gone and the disc is reported as empty. I supose the data was never there but as long as I don't open the drawer, I can verify that data is on the disc. I probably am setting something up wrong and would be just be happy to be able to set up the program so that I can save data from MSWord and Excel or my HD to a R or RW disc. I am about to give up and try another program. worahm

It sounds like you used Drag to Disc, which is a bad move. Use Creator Classic. It is safer, and you don't have to format the disk. You just take it off the spindle and burn, and it is a much safer way to back up data.

Also, don't use rewriteable disks, if you are doing permanent archiving. Use CD-R disks.

I did as you suggested and everything seemed to work fine. I was able to save a MSWord Docutmnet to my CDRW drive on a RDisc. I substantiated the fact the file was on the CD 3 different ways.

After I opened and closed the drawer, EMC9 reports the disc as empty. When I try to open the file the in MSWord there is no file available. When I check properties, the disc shows that some portion of the disc had been burned which would imply the file is on the disc but I cannot find any files listed.

Is is possibe that EMC stored the file with some kind of title and I must use the title to see the files that are on the disc?

I am at a loss. If you go to Explorer, can you see it? Can you see it, if you reboot?
