Please HELP!

Tinkerbell1971

Question

Hello. I'm new here, I found the discussion group by accident.

Anyway, here is my problem, hope someone can help me.

I have Roxio 7 I'm thinking of upgrading to 9 but before I do I need to know a few things.

I promised my daughter's school that I would make a picture slide show with music for the graduates this year. Well, I didn't know what I was getting into, LOL. They have A LOT of pictures. They said so many that the video would probably need TWO songs. :o I've only done it with my kids pictures. I went and checked on Roxio Storyboard and it only has 32 places. Is there anyway AT ALL that I would be able to make a picture slideshow with music with more then 32 pictures??? Last year they used a Powerpoint presentation with no music and no one really liked it. I really don't want to have to go to them and tell them it can't be done. I've seen it done at weddings, 2 songs on a picture video, but I have no idea how to do this. Someone please help me.

I appreciate any input.

EMC 7 or 7.5 is still available on eBay if you want to upgrade - it's closing at variable prices, so check the options (and seller's feedback) before committing. It's probably also available places like amazon.com but I don't spend much time there.

EMC 7.5 is Roxio's EMC 7 plus some Sonic programs after Sonic bought the name & software from the company that HAD been called Roxio but had purchased the name & software for Napster and has changed its name to Napster.

I purchased the retail version of Roxio EMC 7 a long time ago and just got out the original program sleve that the disc came in and on the back it has the CD Key #, the TSID # and it shows the version as

EMC V7 0.1 PROG. I did do an update for it later after I installed it and that update was "Update 70to71_2.exe. Not sure that information helps the OP at all Larry, but it's just for information only.

I have EMC 7 Basic Edition and I can only use Story Board....Time Line is only available if I upgrade. With the basic though I can add more than 32....when 32 is full it adds more panels.

Hope this helps....I'm new here and was just lurking.

Thanks for your input. It's VERY helpful when someone with the same version of the program gives advice. :)

I dont think you'll need to upgrade to do this. You can add a lot more picture files than 32. I've done the same kind of project you are talking about for my kid's school and have used 100's of pictures.

The way I would do it is to add the pictures in the order you want, get the timing of those and any transitions you want to use all set up first. Then, once that's all done, then add your audio (music) to the project.

You might let us know what exact version of EMC 7 you are using. However, either of Roxio's EMC 7.x or 7.5 can be used to make a slide show with way more than 32 photos. I have used as many as 275 photos and had no problems. Start out using "Videowave" and add the pictures in the "Story Board" view. Then make sure that you have all of the audio tracks available and then as Larry suggested add you music when in the "Timeline" view. After that you might want to add some transitions or even possibly some video clips.

Save the entire production with a name of your choice as a "DMSM" file and then open "DVDBulder" to edit anything or make some additional additions and then burn it to a DVD.

I appreciate everyone helping me. Thank You. I just opened up my Storyboard and it has "timeline" but I cannot view it for some reason. Anyone have any ideas why I can't view it? It has only one timeline icon. I do not have Roxio 7.5 it is 7, that's why I was thinking of upgradiing.

Thanks to all again.

1. With the "Storyboard" open, go to the Help -> About and list your exact Build Version #. It should look something like (Build 7.1.1.189 ENU)

2. Did you purchase the 7 version you are using or did it come with something, like a dvd-burner drive?

3. What steps are you taking to get to the Storyboard screen?

The verison is 7.1.0.183

Roxio came already on the computer, I have no software for it.

I click on my desktop icon to get to my storyboard screen.

Ok, that looks like it's a "Basic" version (one that comes bundled with a purchase) that was included then with the PC purchase. In that case, that's probably why you can't get to the Timeline view. Basic versions usually have limited functionality. You should still be able to add more than 32 picture files I think. Try a test project and see if you can.

Have you made the other slideshows you mentioned earlier with this software or something else?

What is the desktop icon labeled as that you start it from?

I made the slideshows with this software. The desktop icon is labeled Shortcut to Storyboard 7.exe

I don't think it's a Basic version. Go to Help/ About and see which version you have and please let us know.

In EMC 7.1, when you click on Create Slideshow on the main screen it opens Storyboard.

You DO NOT want to use that program. It's a version of VideoWave, but VideoWave is a better program. Storyboard is very slow.

If you have already made the slideshows in Storyboard, open VideoWave and you will be able to edit the slideshows more easily.

Go to the main screen when you launce EMC 7 and choose the program VideoWave in the lower right hand corner.

With VideoWave, you'll be able to add lots of pictures and music. There are internal audio tracks where you can attach music or sound effects to an individual picture and an external track where you can span many pictures.

"The verison is 7.1.0.183"----Build 7.1.1.189 ENU was the update for .183 as I remember ??

Wasn't this version the original version of EMC 7, before any update ?? If that's true, then I don't think that the OP has a "basic" version either. However based on one of the OP's post replies---

"Roxio came already on the computer, I have no software for it."--It sure looks like it is !!

Even if it is a basic version that came on a computer already installed, I would think it would have both Timeline AND Storyline views to work with.

Oh, thanks Larry. That's a horse of a different color.

What kind of computer is that? If it's a Dell, it's probably listed under Programs\ Dell.....

See if there's an option to work with video. That would be the VideoWave program, but that might not have a timeline either.

*edit* What does the text under the desktop icon say?

No 7.1.0.183 was not a retail version. They were 7.0.3xxx and 7.1.0.4xxx (approx)

Most all of the basic versions do not have timeline.

I didn't think of that. My guess is that it is the special Dell version, which was a 7.1 based version.
