Would like to get program to work

PACJ

Question

:angry2: After Creator 9 program & "eject" repeatly crashed computer and with a lot of Tech help it is installed, it doesn't crash & it doesn't work. in new or classic.

I dradged small sample folder to open E screen & dropped, I think it made a copy, after 5min I ejected it (never said anything like done & sounds never stopped). I did not "Finish" disk, as I had more to add. Put in F tray to try to see jpgs & F said put in disk (it did not see disk) before in ver7 it showed & you can access items.

Next I put disk back in E and tried to add several samll jpgs (well over 600 free space), I clicked red button & it turned yellow, no matter what I tried can NOT add jpgs. I put disk in F tray still can't see it. Re-read Help manual NOW what do I do?? No help at all. Is there something I missed?? Do I reinstall again??

At least it has not crashed the computer, yet. I am 1 week behind schedule & am trouble, not to mention that this program hates me. Ver7 RecordNow as great! How can something like this come out of it?? PACJ desperate!! Please send help.

If the appendable disc is greyed out, that means the disc has been closed.

This is NOT a floppy disc. If you treat it like a floppy disc (by formatting it), you will probably lose all the information on it. Furthermore, if you format the disc, it cannot be read by anyone who doesn't have the same Brand of formatting program, and possibly not the exact same Version of the program, and it may balk at even the same Brand and same Version if there is a different Operating System.

If you want to save the data or share the data, DO NOT FORMAT THE DISC. Get rid of Drag2Disc. It will only cause you grief.

Now, how do you burn a CD? Well, try the built-in WinXP burning. Use the WinXP help function and look for 'burn a CD'. It has the ability to burn a CD included in the WinXP burning (altho it doesn't do DVDs).

If the project is as simple as you are saying it is, WinXP will probably do what you need done. And it does NOT format the disc. It uses Sessions.

Oh Dear! I have tried everything to date, including another clean uninstall of Ver9, making a new user, etc. Things are not looking good. :( CD's still can not be added to and I thought maybe it would work in DVD, I foolishly tried! 1st time I tried Classic mode the programs said error, & closed when I was adding things to the lisxt to be burned. 2nd problem, I think I made I usable DVD (I won't know until I try it on someone elses computer) but I said 2 copies & only got 1; 3rd problem - even though I made sure the multipule sessions was a big YES in TOOLS, I still can't add another session. I think it crashed, right now I am too tired for words. Any other ideas? Thanks you all for your input. PACJ

New or Classic? Well over 600 free space? Red button/Green button?

What application are you using? Drag2Disc? Creator Classic? Burn from Home page ? I would suggest that you use only Creator Classic and forget about the other two.

Did you format the disc? Did you reload sessions before you tried to add more? Help by providing more information about what application you are using and what process.

I removed Drag2 program, I updated PX for Creator ver9, re-updated my CD/DVD firmware as well, which didn't help. The Classic burn still closed my CD, but I did re-check & the use multipul session-do not close was still selected. As you told me, I went to XP Help and tried to do what it said "To copy files and folders to a CD Insert a blank, writable CD into the CD recorder. Open My Computer. Click the files or folders you want to copy to the CD. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want. Then, under File and Folder Tasks, click Copy this file, Copy this folder, or Copy the selected items.

If the files are located in My Pictures, under Picture Tasks, click Copy to CD or Copy all items to CD, and then skip to step 5.In the Copy Items dialog box, click the CD recording drive, and then click Copy.

In My Computer, double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. Verify that the files and folders that you intend to copy to the CD appear under Files Ready to be Written to the CD. Under CD Writing Tasks, click Write these files to CD. Windows displays the CD Writing Wizard. Follow the instructions in the wizard. "

However a pop up box said "E:\ is not accessible - Incorrect function" so I could not make a CD. Then I spent the night with an HP tech in a live chat. Tomorrow I will try his suggections for an XP burn, but he said I really should get the Creator ver9 working. Thanks. PACJ

Hi, I went to the program and did the following:

In classic mode I tried both drag & drop & selecting from box on top right (it had the folder containing several pictures). Placed in Data Disk Project, click burn, popup says E:HP DVD Writer 640b-E223, single session CD-R (1 CD-R 80min. needed only- burn options & help & cancel boxes are available.) OK box not pick-able. My HP has { 16x DVD(+/-)R/RW DL LightScribe drive and DVD ROM. CD burn Max 40x, DVD 16x.} Can not burn as I can't get "ok" box to be visible. (I had no problems with ver7.) What am I doing wrong??

I used a new session. In the popup box, next to the E:HP the format is dimmed, so that means it is formatted I take it.

I have just tried doing a data disk-

In data disk - add data & then click red button to continue it turns yellow then red again (never green for burning). It estimates 635 free on disk but I can't get it to burn.

I've just spent the day doing a clean uninstall & re-install. And - Using Classic - I think I made a file on the disk without crashing, took it out put in the other try & saw pictures, I hope my friends computer will be able to run the CD and see something!.

Then I put the cd back in the burning try to add another folder, I'm getting bold here! So I tried to add another folder and now the popup box says "Burn Setup, checkmark in box, then E: HP DVD writer 640b-E223; Single session CD-R (appendable)." I can't click "OK" to burn CD as it is grey. So I can't burn. What did I do wrong? :( Sigh...

I have not uninstalled the Drag 2Drop as I have just reinstalled program.

What is the drive letter for your burner? Are you sure it is "E"? Could 'E" be an external hard drive, a thumb drive, a hard drive or something else? Take a look at the image and at your computer. Click on the "My Computer" on you desktop screen Is this what you see? A simple yes or no. If No, then what does it say where mine shows "CD Drive (E)"? Near the image of the disc, does it say CD-R or CD-RW?

Hi, the words are : DVD-RW Drive (E:)

I can now use XP to make CD's that I can add to, but the HP folks said I should get Creator ver9 to work right. I have had this computer since 2005 and have never had such a mess, it surprised me. I appreciate all the effort you folks have put into helping me.

:o I spent 2 hours in line -on hold for a Live Chat yesterday, but the chat never happened. Every so often I could see the little green bars move in the connection box on the bottom left, so I knew I was still connected. I wil try again on Monday. There has to be something I can try next. PACJ

Yes, I did dowload & read the manual. Did not help.

What product do you have?

You answered none of my questions. Read my first post again, this time slowly, and answer the questions,

Where do you see classic mode vs new mode?

What application are you using to burn?

"Box on the top right" doesn't mean anything to me.

Application?, application?, application? - from the Home menu, under Welcome, there is a tab for application. Which of these are you trying to use. OR at least use the name of the application that shows in the top left side of the window that opens when you open whatever the application you are trying to use.

Still can't give me a straight answer :( - I was expecting a yes or no followed by more information. Don't assume.

I thought you said that you were trying to write to a CD. You have a DVD-RW in that drive.

Did HP say that you have a burner that will burn CDs and DVD plus R and DVD dash R discs?

Program I am trying to use is Roxio Easy Media Creator ver 9

I have tried both Creator Classic & Data Disc (the new "mode") found in DATA on left side panel in Creator 9 Home .

Box on the left has Select Source (Smart View, folders, my media space) box on right corresponds to one on left (such as left - Folder, on Right files in that folder).

Have you updated the drivers for your video card? Have you updated the firmware for your DVD burner? Have you done any computer maintenance, namely defrag the hard drive and get rid of any malware/spyware on your computer?

What antivirus software do you have on your computer? Do you have Zone Alarm on your computer? Do you have Internet Explorer on your computer? Do you have WMP 11 on your computer?

Try answering these questions without rambling on about something else.

Didn't ask program; I asked application. Is this what you are talking about?

Now I forgot the original question. :( I'm having trouble understanding what you are saying so i'm going to bow out. Perhaps someone else can help.

Just a wild-shot - you mentioned earlier you "can't get the disc to format" so you assume it is formatted.

If you have a formatted disc, carefully remove it fromt he burner and put it somewhere else, such as the trashcan.

Take a new, BLANK blank out of the package or off the spindle, and place it in the drive. DO NOT FORMAT. That should fix it.

Assuming the above guess is correct:

  • If you format the disc, it is formated with Drag2Disc, and will only work with Drag2Disc. It will call up Drag2Disc every time you put it in. It's what I call "Basic False Analogy" - you format the floppy, then use the floppy - therefore you format the CD-R or CD-RW, then use the CD-R or CD-RW. For all the other programs within the suite (the ones which are better for keeping your data long-term), use a BLANK blank disc, directly out of the package or off the spindle.

  • Packet-Writing is NOT compatible between different programs, and often not between different Versions of the same program. I understand EMC 9 can READ Versions 6 thru 8, but it CANNOT WRITE to the discs.

  • And if you've made the MISTAKE of "saving" data with Packet-Writing, I'd suggest getting it re-burned using Creator Classic OR WinXP to make a standard CD-R. Then close it.

  • If you have used CD-RW (altho you haven't said you did), re-burn to CD-R if you want to KEEP the data - CD-RWs fade to blank, usually over months but it can be days or weeks or years.

I know that the multiple copies s a bug; it can't be done with one burner. If you have two burners, you can make an iso file and then use disc copier to burn one copy to each at the same time and repeat as necessary

I put in a new disk as you said & I was able to click "OK" at last, but it crashed my computer again. This is the 2nd time I have installed Creator ver 9. It was a clean install with all thae manual removals. I am crushed. Any ideas as to what I should try next? I appreciate everyone help. PACJ

Try uninstalling IE 7. It should roll back to IE 6. Also, uninstall WMP 11, and roll back to version 10 or 9.
